So I have 2 gunniea pigs and one died and we buried her but I’ve been having doubts that she was dead and I know she is. Anyways when we found her she was on her side and her mouth looked like it had stuff in it and that it was dry her eyes were wide open and dident look wet and she was cold and not breathing and a little stiff Ik she’s dead but I just need somebody to confirm it we already buried her

Also I want to know what should we do to the other one that’s alive should she be on her own or should we get her a new friend we have 2 other gunniea pigs in another cage in another room but she dosent like they and she was very dependent on the one that just died almost 24 hours ago what should we do?

I am so sorry for your loss. It is never easy even if we are prepared and know it’s going to happen. Big ((Hugs)))

Stiffness is rigamortis setting in. Definitly dead. Sorry for your loss, its normal to doubt yourself when this happens

Is there anyway you would know what caused it like a heart attack or something she had food and water and should I give the remaining one a new friend or would she be better on her own she was very dependent on the one that died

Did you feed hay? Was he eating well up until his death? Any sneezing? Runny nose?

I’m sorry for your loss. It’s alwayd hard when you lose a guinea pig. A couple of month ago my guinea pig Oreo died. She was cold and rigamortis had set in but I swear I could see her breathing still. It was just my mind playing tricks because I didn’t want her to be gone.

No she was perfectly fine that’s the weird part whenever we walked into the room she would squeal come up on the bars and go crazy to see you but the day she died her voice was gone she was eating drinking and everything she was acting perfectly normal around 1:00 then later that day around 3 we all found her dead in her cage just laying there on her side

What a shock, sounds like a heart problem maybe, this same thing happened a few months ago to my sister in laws cat. He was only 6 , bright and healthy 1 minute then 2 hours later he was gone

I know how you feel I know she’s dead she wasent breathing but I just keep thinking she isent dead and mabie there’s a chance she is alive we also have another gunniea pig named Oreo she’s still alive her friend jasmine is the one that died but we don’t know if we should get oreo a new friend she dosent get along with any of our other 2 gunniea pigs after jasmine died so we don’t know if we should get her another cage mate she seems fine when she’s alone we held her a lot she seems normal eating and everything but we know there good at hiding there sicknesses we want to make sure she dosent die from depression or anything

Yeah it’s sad to know if mabie we weee in the room we could have brought her to the vet and mabie something would happen but a part of me knows that she had no chance if we were there or not

Its always what we think tho, i could have done this or that but you were not to know

How old was your guinea pig when she died?

My pets all seem to die of old age. My cat died at 13 years of age. My hamsters all die around 4 or 5 years of age. I take them to the vet when I see something wrong with them so that help to increase their longevity.

She was only 2 and a half years old she lost her voice the day she died but she was still acting normal she still ran around and played with her cage mate and ate and everything I don’t know what happend we think it was a heart attack or something similar

So sorry for your loss.
It’s hard when a piggy dies so unexpectedly and it’s natural to question yourself.
This is part of grief.
With regard to your single piggy, she will be grieving too in her own way.
She will need companionship so give yourself a few days to cope with the initial loss and then you can start thinking about possible options for your girl
