Herd of Marley
Junior Guinea Pig
I have tried making several different recipes but this is one I came up with myself and it's his absolute favourite. I've never seen any instructions for making these online so I don't know if anyone else makes them for their pigs. They're practically identical to the baked carrot crisp things you can buy in pet stores... Except that Marley completely ignores the shop brought ones and goes crazy for the ones I bake! Maybe the ones in pet shops contain other ingredients or are baked differently.
1. Peel a carrot. Chop it cross ways into thin little. "Coins". They should be 1-2mm thick but not so thin that they are translucent. (Otherwise they will stick to the baking tray)
2. Lay them straight on a baking tray.
3. Put them in a preheated oven at 120 degrees Celsius for an hour and a half.
4. Leave to cool for 15mins and they are ready to serve.
They don't look very appetising but Marley could eat them forever and he is so fussy when it comes to treats. I also think that they're fairly healthy and are useful as a small reward.
They should come out looking like this:
