My sweet quirky lil man was pts today :'( :'(

He'd lost all interest in food & had lost a lot of weight, I'd been spoon feeding him for the past 10 days (he didn't like the syringe). He'd been on baytril for a suspected URI & then yesterday the vet confirmed my fears of a neurological problem as well as finding blood in his urine - i could lay him totally out flat but on his right side he'd flail his legs to try to right himself but couldn't :'( I was asked to determine his quality of life - because he was happy to be spoon fed i said i thought he still had one.

Late last night he deteriorated & couldn't walk without falling over to the left, today i took him to an exotics vet for a 2nd opinion & she too said it was neurological. By now he couldn't walk at all without wobbling like a rocking boat, he had no co-ordination at all. I explained his history & the awful words pts were mentioned again - i couldn't do it; told her i was being totally selfish & he would make the decision himself if he was suffering. She said she thought he was. Decision was made & i agreed. :'( :'(

When i chatted to Duke last night i said to him that our little friend Howie was in real trouble and not too good, we both sent up some piggie prayers for him i'm sure he heard them :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

You already know how sorry and so very, very sad I am at the loss of darling Howie. He was such a unique little man. One of the extra special ones! Not that they're all special in their own way! :smitten: :smitten:

Like I said to you, when you love them so much you sometimes have to let them go! :'(

:'( i still can't believe Howie has gone, Debbie is right he was a special man. I will miss hearing about his funny grumpy ways and all the cute pics of him. I'm so sorry Niki.

I am heartbroken :'( It is so sad to find them gone but to nurse them & fail hurts even more :'( :'(

Niki, I'm so very sorry, he was such a little sweetheart and that pic of his "hat" is one of my all time favourite piggie pics as you know!
