New Born Pup
Hello,
Long story short, my cousin passed away and I was supposed to get her GP but another family member decided to keep it. I had already started research about them and was thinking of ways to make this elderly GP's last year or so better. I even put in an order for some supplies. I'm usually the one to do research about new pets as they are mostly considered mine because I care for them the most (as I'm home all the time and my husband works full time.)
My husband saw that I was sad that I couldn't get the GP and went ahead and got me one without looking up their care needs. He assumed I knew already and didn't think of them being herd animals. I already had supplies needed, too. Please don't think bad of him. This last week has been so horrible. The habitat he got was not big enough.
So here is my current situation. I have an aprox 8 week old female guinea pig (20cm long) in a 4 square foot habitat. (One level) No playmate. I told my husband we must upgrade the habitat and be on the lookout for a playmate from a shelter or a rescue. He agreed but we have to wait a couple weeks to get space figured out, buy the new cage/more supplies...etc.
She does seem happy as is right now; she can run around in the habitat, and she popcorns. She eats great, a cup of veggies, a cup of pellets, hay...etc. I hold/play with her throughout the day. She talks to me, but it is little quiet squeak sounds. Not sure if those are content sounds or nervous sounds.
I hope that she will be okay for the next couple weeks with her current set up.
