My kitten thinks the pigs are toys!

We recently got a kitten, and he will not leave the pigs alone! :^- He hides in the plants, watching them, and then chases them! He can't get at the boys (though he gives it a good go) because the wire is too narrow, but he can fit his paw through the girls run. He chases them round the edge, pokes their bottoms, and keeps trying to steal their food!

I've been chasing him with a water spray. He's not fussed about the pigs on their own - wasn't interested when I was holding one today - he just seems to like poking them! Bad cat.

And he's obsessed with their food. I've caught him eating their nuggest three times now - I only turn my back for a second! And he sticks his paws in and pulls the bowls over to the edge of the run. And he climed in one of the hutches...:))
 
You really need to be careful about this. Whilst he is still young, you need to nip it in the bud. It looks cute now, but won't do when he is a fully grown cat and is using the piggies as prey. I have a kitten, as well, and have always been very firm with him if ever he poked them. It's only a poke, but one day he could get over excited and scratch them. Oliver (my kitten) is very well behaved with them now as I have made it very clear that it is not acceptable. (I would spray him with a bottle twice, if that failed, I'd put him in the bathroom on his own for 10mins). I am also sure that the eating their food is dominance behaviour...

We've been spraying him, and he's learning slowly. He's actually just been brought inside because he was chasing them, and now he's wailing as we speak!

As for food - I don't think so :)) He eats anything. He's just greedy.
 
Hmmm.... I had a cat who was terrified of them, having fallen into their cage as a kitten, and was 'scarred' for life....:))

LOL. Well, Mylo was playing in the garden today when two big cats came in and the poor little thing was terrified! I had to go back out with him after Mum chased him away because he was too scared! We felt really sorry for him...until he started 'playing' with the pigs again, then he got shut back inside!
 
My cat Peeves won't go anywhere near the pigs.
When he was a kitten, he decided to bug my piggy Nibbles. Nibbles was a mean guinea pig, she didn't like other pigs, pets, or people besides me. So Peeves went up to Nibbles and decided to poke her. That made her really mad, so she bit him on the paw. He recoiled from her but still stayed. Then she got really mad and lunged at him and chased him out of the room. Even though Nibbles has been gone for a year now, Peeves never goes near any piggies. Poor kitty :))
 
They're very impressionable as kittens, so you want him to develop a rational fear of them whilst he's small enough to control;).. Do you know anyone with an aggressive boar who hates cats?
 
If your pigs stand their ground I'm sure they'll be fine. My kittens poke their paws inside the cage too - But I have a lid on their cage because I don't want or need to risk anything.
 
Is there any way you could put an extra division around the hutch and run as cats can cause stress to guinea pigs.

If he can touch them, then it might lead to scratching which could cause infections as well.

Although there is a chance that he would just lose interest in them, there is also a chance that he could cause more harm so I would recommend that you would make a few precautions.
