my baby bonnie sadly passed away this morning 💔 bit of a long story........
so a few weeks ago i was going on holiday with my family so i decided to leave bonnie and poppy with a cousin who owns a rabbit. when i collected them from my cousins, i noticed bonnie wasn’t right- runny poo, refusing food and just not herself. i syringe fed her and gave her cucumber in an effort to hydrate her. a few days later, i noticed poppy had lice, and as it is contagious, bonnie had it too. we drove to the pet hospital who gave us an ivermectin spot on treatment. fast forward to yesterday- bonnie was still not right and i was away at the RDS dublin horse show with a friend and i got a call from my parents. they explained that they were bringing bonnie to the pet hospital and they would keep me up to date. turns out the vet reckons the pigs were put into the inclosire with the rabbit. bonnie caught an infection from the rabbit and sadly despite our efforts passed this morning. this just shows that guineas pigs and rabbits should NEVER mix. sleep tight my little angel bonnie, lulu is waiting for you at the end of the rainbow bridge xxxxx

miss you already little piggie

Oh bless you. I’m so sorry for your loss. Popcorn free Bonnie xx

Is Poppy OK?

So sorry for your loss.
A wise warning not to mix rabbits and guinea pigs.
Sorry you had to learn that so painfully

poppy is doing great, missing bonnie a lot i would say, no signs of infection passed to her

i had told my cousin under no circumstances was she to let my pigs and her rabbit to interact or go near each other but she didn’t listen and put them together. it just shows that some people are so ignorant

thanks for all the lovely replies, it really means a lot. missing bonnie terribly but she is over the rainbow bridge now, popcorning with my lulu. if it were up to me, i would wait a while before getting another pig but poppy is already showing a few signs of depression so we will hopefully be getting a rescue piggy for her soon.

A guinea pig is usually needing a companion while we are still grieving for the one we have lost.
Hope you do find a lovely rescue companion for her.
Keep us posted

Sadly this underlines Bunnys and Piggies don't live together. Wouldn't it be lovely if pet shops especially the big shops :hmm:would stop putting them together for sale purpose and foolin the public who think if they do it we can.
I'm so sorry your piggie has died and you need to remember it was not your fault.
RIP Little piggie. x

You are welcome. On this forum a big percentage of people myself included join in hours after we lost a loved piggie.
Guess for answers or the wanting to tell people you lost a piggie and you feeling terrible.
Be strong and remember the good times and use us here.
I lost a piggie 15 months ago and it still breaks me . . . Why. :hmm: cos I loved him.
