As many of you know I’ve not had a boar of my own since I lost my beloved fuzzy Mr Ted about 2 years ago and then had to deal with some rather dominant sows who refused to live together. Over the last few months I’ve built up a lovely mini herd of sows who all get along peacefully and happily together. I had been yearning for a neutered boar to go with them, but was very worried about upsetting the herd dynamics.

Then along came Ralph into the rescue. This little cheeky chap had had a bust up with his cage mate and was deemed unsuitable for boar dating so was neutered by the rescue. I fell for his agouti charm and cheeky personality on the first day I saw him. Helen agreed to reserve him for me until he was “safe” so I could try him with the girls. If it didn’t work out he would have appeared on the website for adoption.

Last Friday Ralph came for a bonding session which was one of the liveliest I have ever seen. His energy, exuberance and persistence have earned him the nickname “Rampant Ralph” which is likely to stick with him all his days. A week on and he has 2 clear favourites - Holly and Sylvia but they all tolerate him and the mounting, rumbling and chasing has settled down. As yet only Sylvia will allow him to share a cosy with her. But he’s only 6months old and growing into a very handsome young boar.

My mini herd is now complete.

What a lovely addition to your herd. My neutered boar, Cufflinks (all credit to my brother for the name) is very contented with his gang of sows. He was 5 months old when he first moved in and it now just over a year.

Hope Ralph continues to delight you and us!

I like the name. I have a rainbow bridge pig I’d named Ralph. Or Ralphie.
His fur is so pretty.

Fantastic name! Very handsome little one, congratulations. Getting him from a rescue is really wonderful; he's a very lucky little guy.

All my little herd have come from rescue. There are always so many of these lovely piggies who are looking for new homes. It’s joyful to see them settle in and find their permanent home with us.
