So I had posted about a week and a half ago about my 5 1/2 year-old guinea pig Lulu she’s been extra dominant lately with her cage mates so I had brought her to the vet for them to take a look at her and come to find out she has assist the size of a grape on her right side so next week she’s going in for surgery to get spayed I’m hoping she does good and under the anesthesia because she is an older piggy does anybody have this experience will she calm down once she has the surgery will she be OK and bounce back pretty fast even though she’s an older piggy very worried😩💕

Has anyone else’s older piggy’s have to go through this ? So worried because she’s older and right now she’s on Metacam till her surgery .I'm hoping once she’s spayed an she won’t get anymore cysts she’ll calm down an not be so dominant

Hi

I have had several five year old sows emergency spayed over a potentially cancerous cyst but at that age mostly about suddenly growing large fluid filled ovarian cysts.

Thanks to a good vet, they have all made a full recovery and lived to between 6-8 years of age.

Spaying removes the full reproductive tract, and no she won't be able to get another more cysts.
Here is more information on ovarian cysts:

Fingers firmly crossed that all is going well.

Hope all goes well for Lulu

One of my sows went in to have an abscess removed and the vet also removed ovarian cysts that had ballooned within a week.
Jemimah came home with 2 very impressive wounds and made a full recovery.
