Hi,
My Handsome Alex has not been 100% for a few weeks and trips to the vets has resulted in a dental op, bloods and several X-rays one including his skull to check for root growth (came back ok). One X-ray has shown a bladder stone :( the size of it looks like it could be passed naturally. Blood results show an issue with his white blood cells and something else (sorry I can not remember what she said ...lymph nods I think) this could indicate a ragging infection or cancer of the blood I'm told (no worrying areas has shown up on the X-rays) yesterday we went back for another check up and we don't think he's passed the stone over the last week as planned and he was now in pain (this came on quickly as he has been on antibiotics and other meds plus monitoring for pain).
He's on tramadol for the next week and his antibiotics have continued in the hope he passes this stone if he doesn't by next Thursday I need to say goodbye..I'm heartbroken
It would mean more X-rays, a major op to remove the stone and then we would have to do more tests to see about this suspected cancer this is all to much for him
He's eating as normal, free roaming the living room daily, seems very happy still which is awful knowing that he's not ok on the inside, he's going to the loo fine and not in pain when he goes to the toilet.
Is there anything else I can do to help him shift this stone please I don't want to loose my Alex
Thank you

Hi! I am very sorry for your plight!

I hope that your boy can pass the bladder stone. You can enourage him to make a bigger pee by letting him drink from a syringe, as much as he is willing to take in one session. Please don't give more than he wants and never push more water into the mouth than he can swallow (about 0.3 ml - 0.5 ml). You can try that twice a day. However, there is nothing that can force him to pass the stone.
You can support the bladder walls with glucosamine or a glucosamine-based cat bladder supplement like cystease or cystophan.

Can you refer back with your vet re. the blood tests? Enlarged lymph nodes point towards an infection. There is also cancer of the lymph nodes (lymphoma), which is increasingly common (or more often diagnosed) but not curable.

Thank you very much @Wiebke i was giving him water via a syringe and in a saucer after his dental op but now I know it's ok to do I will continue taking on board your advice. He's weeing lots as his puppy pad is drenched (it's under his vet bedding in his sleeping area and regularly chanced.
He's been on...
Meloxidyl
Cerenia
Co-trimoxazole
And now tramadol for his pain
*Edited to correct mistakes sorry

Has his vet checked for a cystitis (bladder wall inflammation) from the irritation through the stone?
Poor boy has got quite a cocktail!

No she hasn't checked for that, is the test for this a wee sample? If so I could try and get one and drop it in I've seen how to get one from a piggy. She has only said he needs another X-ray to see if the stone has gone then another blood test to see if the antibiotics have chanced the current blood results

Yes, it is a simple urine test.

Huge hugs from Switzerland too.
I have everything crossed for your boy, but whatever happens it sounds like you are doing absolutely everything you can to keep him happy and comfortable.

I don't have anything to add Kel but really hope he passes the stone and it turns out not to be cancer.

If you are still seeing Sarah the vet then she is a very capable surgeon, she would be able to remove a bladder stone if necessary :) She would most definitely have checked for bladder inflammation. If there are inflamed lymph nodes I think she would be checking for Lymphoma, hence checking the white blood cell count after a course of antibiotics, she is very thorough, your boy is in very safe hands so don't give up hope x

Thank you @Poppy'sMum yes he's been in Sarah's hands all the way through this she's amazing. The surgery is a worry for three reasons the possible cancer after it so we might be putting him through this just to loose him to that afterwards, the fact he's just had one surgery to sort back his teeth and now he needs another op and it's a huge expense on to of a massive bill already :( x

I think they can pass stones I've had 2 that did just that, which is why checking their nether regions is so important. However mine were girls & it is easier for them to pass them x

Thank you, I hope he does because he's 100% acting like his normal self. I'm finding it hard to deal with the decisions I'm facing and I'm not well myself at the mo so it's draining , I just want the very best for my boys just like all us piggy mums and dads on here. I've switched all piggies over to Timothy hay and I'm going to filter their water after reading about that on here because we live in a very hard water area (carbon filter not chemical) .
Thank you @Poppy'sMum x
