I feel ready now to pay a little tribute to my Mario, who I lost on Wednesday.
Mario came as a 'rescue' from the pets at home adoption section. I'd had no plans to take on another piggy never mind a boar but I just couldn't leave him behind when I saw him.
I brought him home, this terrified little piggy, who was quiet and shy and didn't really know what to do with himself. A week later he moved into the same room as the girls as his world lit up, he completely changed and became a noisy and nosy piggy who loved to chat to the ladies even though he couldn't see them.
A couple of weeks later he sailed through his neutering Op and things were looking bright. He moved into the C+C cage next door to the ladies and convinced himself he could chew through the partition to get to them. He would sing to them, nuzzle them through the bars and was a general very happy chappy.
Last Sunday night I noticed a lump on his manly bits, and Tuesday morning he was in with the vet and put on antibiotics and painkillers to try and get rid of the abscess.
Wednesday evening I got home from work to find my little super Mario gone, curled up in his bed. I just couldn't believe it, such a shock.
I miss his singing to the ladies, even the sound of his bar biting when they weren't paying attention to him.
I know at least that in his last few months he had a top notch life and didn't live out his days huddled at pets at home.
Sleep tight little one, play safe at the bridge.
