I've had a hell of 24hours, last night I was rushed into hospital with an asthma attack, last time this happened was 5years ago. I only got back this afternoon feeling really bad at leaving the piggies. The doc wanted me to stay another 6hours but I insisted on going home. I HATE hospitals! :...

Anyway... When I got back the first thing I did is give the pigs a top up of food and hay, second thing was go to the fridge and give them a big pile of veggies.
Now normally Teddy sits with the girls and eats the veg with them, but he was hiding and showing no interest (despite it being a bit more than 24hours since they last had veg.) Now the last time this happened was when his tooth was growing back (after breaking it to the gum line) and it had split so was growing back in two bits, a swift trip to the vets and rimadryl was prescribed. It worked a treat he pretty much started eating again within 24hours of starting meds and the split bit of tooth broke off on his own about 5 days later and the incisor is now almost level with the other apart from a little chip.

So obv when I saw him not munching I got worried, I got him out and he felt like he had lost weight, I weighed him and he is down about 30g. I checked front teeth and they look nomal considering what I just mentioned above. Now his eyes were a *little* crusty. Which makes me think could it be his molars? Although he doesnt seem to be dribbling.
I also checked his feet and one of his front paws was more pink than the other and was slightly warm so were his back hocksthey were just pink, I applied Perfect Paws from GG and looking now the pinkness has reduced a little and no longer warm.

I tried to hand feed some greens but he wasn't interested, so dissolved some nuggets and gave him some in a syringe which he gobbled up, which again leads me to think it might be his molars? As he appeared to be hungry for the feed. Anything I can do? I have one quarter of the rimadryl left but don't want to give it to him as its just guess work on my part and I know rim is quite strong. Is it a trip to the vet tomorrow? Or monitor and go tues?

To make things worse they have given me oral steroids and its given me the start of a terrible migrane 8...

Sorry for the long, probably garbled post, have not had much sleep, and am now a worried mummy :(

Appreciate any comments, thank you xx

The (rather obscene) day/nightime variation in temperatures at the moment could leave piggies open to respiratory infections and the crusty eyes could be an indication.
Ssuggest you take him to the vet to check his chest as well as his molars - a course of antibioitics might be in order...or another trim.

Make sure you keep feeding him by syringe if ncessary to keep his weight up

Hope he recovers soon

Thanks Pebble! I hadn't thought of an RI. He's been nibbling a little at a bowl of readi-grass but not much else. Will make an appointment first thing.

Blimey, sounds like a rough time of it.

Good luck for you both, keep us updated on how you're both feeling and the vet visit. Sending love.
xx

Sorry to hear you had such a rough day Sarah, I hope you are feeling a bit stronger now.

I agree with both yours and Pebbles thoughts thus far, a vet check would be worthwhile. Do keep us updated xx

Thanks everyone! He seems a little better today, still a bit quiet, and has still seperated himself off from the girls at veg time, but ate the bits I gave to him where he was sat in the corner. I got his favourite which is corn on the cob and has had a good munch on that. His eyes seem clearer too. He is also up 20g from yesterday. I think I will keep an eye on him today and assess again tomorrow if he needs the vet. The vet I go to is a good half hour 40mins away and don't want to stress him out if he is making some improvements. Is that ok do you think? Thanks again xx

P.s I am feeling much better thank you, although still not 100% x
