I was soooo excited because today I had planned to get the lone female guinea pig (who was in with three rabbits!) from the woman next door to me who owns a pet shop and was going to put them in there.. she offered her to me first and I said I wasn't sure because she was on her own and I didn't know whether guinea pigs are good at mixing with others if I planned to get her a friend - and I wanted two.. So I came home and thought about it and decided I would 'rescue' her so to speak..

So today I went round and shes gone!! :( Apparently someone else came round to get her instead and she has gone off with them! On her own! :( I feel terrible. I should have got her when I had the chance.

Now I have no piggies and none in mind. I have ordered my 140 zooplus cage though so that should come at the end of this week.... I will have to have a look round for two at the weekend. I have rung all the Norfolk rescues and none of them have any piggies... :(

Hiya

Yeah I have rung them and they say they don't have any at the moment! Boo hoo! They said the only one they might be getting is a boar in a couple of weeks, but ideally I wanted two girlies...

Oh well.. Maybe something will come up! I would love to have younger guinea piggies as I have never had them before and I would like them to grow up with me but I am totally for rescue piggies if I can find some I really love.

:) :)

Yeah I would defo wait. I need not talk though as I dived in but I was lucky with the boys. I drove from Liverpool to Penrith for the girls, maybe if you want the ideal two they will be further afield!

Check out the rescue page on the forum, there might be some there local too you.

Good luck!

Thanks for that... had a browse. There isn't anything near me thats suitable really... the only one near enough to me is a group of 4 girls that the person wants homed together! (Think my husband would think I had gone bonkers to come home and find 4! lol)

I have looked on ad trader and free ads and the others I can think of.

Will end up going to Pets at home at this rate... which I suppose is okaaay - the one near me is quite good and the piggies are quite well looked after but I am never keen on getting pets from pet shops.

Maybe I should just hang on as suggested! :)

Take your time looking for some once your cage has come the perfect pair will turn up ;) Have you rung your local rspca, Blue cross, pdsa there bound to be a lovely pair near you :)

Hiya

Well I live in Diss in South Norfolk.

I can't travel very far - I am relying on my mum to get me about because I am learning to drive but I haven't passed my test yet! :tickedoff: (failed first time! oops!) I can't see my mum travelling half way across the Uk to get me a piggy or two ... :o lol

I have tried the RSPCA's etc and they haven't got anything - which I suppose should be a good thing! (At least there aren't lots of piggies up here needing homes! O0) But I wannnnnaaaa pigggggiiiieeeeee...

(Sorry very immature of me, I am 26!) haha 98) :smitten:

Something similar happened to me. I went to a farm for the day with my children and we saw 2 baby boars for sale. I felt sorry for them and nearly bought them but said to my partner I would think about it and we would go back just before the farm closed. Well we went back to see a little girl in a pushchair holding a box containing the two boars and her parents coming out of the shop with a tiny hutch :( I thought, omg poor piggies :-\
Anyway, not even a week later, I heard about my teddies who are brothers who had come from someone who didnt want them any more and I took them immediately. I am so glad as they were meant to come to me I think.
So yes, hang on and wait for the girlies that need you the most :)

:) :) :) :)

Awwwwwwww what a lovely story. I am pleased you found the piggies who were meant to be with you.

I think Iloveanimals is selling some on freeads shes on here and has some babies for sale i recognised the pic. If shes close to you try her

I dont think thats a good idea...either take some from a rescue, or from a proper breeder I think O0

agree with PP. A rescue is the best if you can. Unfortunately, there wasnt any near me but the thought of giving a loving home to a previously unwanted piggie is lovely :)

There's a piggy in the Norfolk Free ads, i've saved the number for you.
And preloved have you tried that?
If you have to get a piggy from a petshop go to Oulton Broads! It's really good for small animals !

PM me if you want the number

Hiya

Spice and honeys mummy I would be interested to hear what the ad was and have the number if poss - I think I may have missed that one! Unforunately I can't work out how to Pm yet! So if you can send it to me that would be great.

Do you find that rescue piggies take longer to bond with you than ones from pet shops just out of interest, or does it tend to be the other way around? ?

Hi Nancy,

I've three pet shop boars and we are still working on the bonding but they will happily take food on me, they just aren't keen on getting picked up/

I've two rescue sows and they are great, they dont' take food as yet but they will let me stroke them and pick them up in the hutch. I've only had them since Saturday so we are still bonding.

I would say rescue pigs are better cared for than Petshop ones in my experience. Cuzzy my sheltie came to me with mites and was very skinny, he is now getting fat and is mite free.

As long as you show your pig plenty of affection and respect when they want to be alone you should bond no problem!

Good luck finding your forever home girls! :-D

Hi Louise,

Thanks for your reply.

It sounds as though you are doing well with the bonding.... Perhaps it is just down to the character of the piggies and how badly or well they have been treated in general.... Although I can see why rescue piggies do tend to have been better cared for in general...

Hmmmm! :) Lots to think about! ::)

The rescues that I get in are fine and more intent on getting well if its been a case of neglect- eg eating. I had a pregnant sow in yesterday that already eats from my hand, one of the boars that was with her is taking longer but I think thats personality not because he's a rescue- he doesn't know what his lable is :) None of my rescues go to homes as 'skittish' pigs, they are here until they are ready to 'bond' with a Human, there is a 2 wheek (at least) incubation period for ALL pigs. Allow 2 wheeks for guinea to settle into a new environment and become 'themselves' again.
Where pigs come from 'big rescues' and have been running with lots of other pigs I find some are less needy of human attention- some will grow to crave attention others will never want it, but a rescue will tell you what personality the pig has (usually).
