Goldie
Adult Guinea Pig
I don't know if anyone has read about Rikkyboy's problem on another thread but he had what was thought was thickening and swelling under his chin and in his armpits. The vet and I both knew it wasn't an abscess but something strange going on. She thought it was his glands or lymph nodes swollen.
Anyway after a week of antibiotics, there was no change and yesterday I thought he was looking worse. He had lost condition, lost weight and was unhappy.
However, today when I came from work I noticed that he had a bloody leg. I phoned the vet straightaway and they said come up and they would see him. Within 5 minutes I was there and seen ... my vet's practice is fab. Basically it was a collection of fluid under the skin and because it had happened quickly under his armpit, the skin couldn't take it and had leaked. It was either his heart, liver or kidneys that was the problem and had led to a build up of fluid, well oedema.
I hated letting him go but I did it for him as I didn't want him to suffer. :'( :'(
I knew when I took him to the vet that I wouldn't be bringing him home again. I got him in April 2004 when he was a little baby. He was lovely and I will miss him. Josie, his life partner (Rikky was neutered) will be lost within him. She kissed him before he went to the vet, when I held him to her ... she knew he wasn't well.
Josie has lost her two companions in just over 3 months. Fizz passed away suddenly overnight back in April.
I have posted some photos of Rikky which I took when I first noticed he wasn't well.
Rikky and Josie together.
Rest in peace sweetheart. You will always have a special place in my heart! :smitten:
