Took her to vet today, she is Blind! We thought so just wanted to find out for sure..

has anyone else dealt with this? She does pretty goo though but she does startle greatly... Anything I can do to help her feel more comfortable? In about 3 weeks she will be with her boyfriend (he got nuetured 2 weeks ago) She is the sweetest thing and i feel bad because she cant see and she is scared alot, always wants to hide in the towels when i take her out, I can litteraly leave her on my couch for hours and hours and she will just lay down eventually will sprawl out, its so cute.

Just seeing if there were any tips for this issue?

Thanks

Only use a single level cage

Keep the layout the same

Come up with a catchphrase, noise you always make to approach her that lets her know that it's you and what you intend to do.

I'm sure theres more but that's all I can think of for now. Poor love!

I am sorry for your girl! Thankfully, she will have learned to compensate with her other senses and will be OK once she has settled into the daily routine.

One of my piggies came down with cataracts and was practically blind for the rest of her life. After a period of adjustment, she did just fine! Here is her story:

What you can do for Lucy:
- One level cage with no changes - everything always in the same place.
-Always talk to her as soon as you come into the room and keep chattering away. That way, she knows who's there and where you are. Hunters move silently.
-I always touched Mischief very lightly on the back before I picked her up and handled her, so she could brace herself.
-Use as many catch phrases as you can for each part of the daily ritual (including cleaning).
-Over time (that may take months), you can train Lucy to come to you just with your voice.

My old girl Sherbet suffered with cataracts from about 1yr old she lived a full and happy (I'm positve of that) life until bladder cancer took her. She even enjoyed going outside to play on the grass. as for advice cant say anything more than wiebke & Lisajazz has already said. Just enjoy her and give her plenty of time and love.

Poor baby! Not got any experience with piggies but my Eddie bunny went blind from cataracts in his old age. As well as the excellent advice above, if she goes out for a run, I can recommend planting some aromatic plants in the garden, or place them round her run. Eddie seemed to navigate using his nose, and seemed to use things like the rosemary bush as signposts...

Even though it's really sad, she'll still have a great quality of life with you!

thanks for the support!

What else Could i try to feed her? Shes so picky, Wont eat carrots, peppers anymore, Kale.. Only thing i can get her to eat is outside grass, lettuce and Small apple.. What else is something good she can have to try?

Little Mo (we are on Eastenders characters at the moment) came in recently totally blind, she is a right character, wheaks when the other piggies wheak. She is on one level in C&C in our sitting room with BB next to her.
She is on fleece, she seems to like that perhaps it gives more grip.
She has her water bottle in the same place.
She has her food bowl in the same place,
She has her cozie in the same place
she has a fleecy pad under a cardboard box in the same place, she loves her cardboard box
She has her hay in the same corner
When I talk to her, I have a piece of curly kale and let her sniff my hand first (she is a gentle pig) and whilst she is eating it give her a stroke on her nose to her ears. I get her out everyday on the same lapblanket and feed her some veggies.
She has started to do some fabulous popcorns.
Food wise, have you tried Romaine lettuce, curly kale, celery, dill, parsley, dark green cabbage,

I have a blind piggie due to old age cataracts and he bumbles about perfectly fine, I think piggies must sniff out food with their noses because he always manages to find the bean hanging from his cagemates mouth before he finds the one I'm trying to give him.

Good luck with your piggies.
