my abyssinian guinea pig seems to have a fungal infection on his left ear. i’ve had him for about two weeks now and i need to take him to the vet but my mom says that’s ridiculous and that he will just get over it. any tips to convince her? help asap :(

Hi, fungal infections won't get better by themselves. Your piggy needs to see a vet to confirm that that's what it is.
Try and call the vet and ask how much it would cost to see a vet and a get a rough idea of treatment cost and then speak to your mum again.

She has a duty of care to look after your piggy if you are a child ( sorry I don't know how old you are )..

Good luck.

I agree with @artcasper - if you are still dependent on your mother then she is the one responsible for vet care when needed.
If you have only had the piggy for 2 weeks you may have some claim against the place you got him from.
I’m sure a member with more knowledge than me can guide you on that point.

are you in the UK? Charges can vary from vet practice to vet practice. For example just to see a vet recently cost me £30 - but some could charge less and some could charge more.

Where did you buy him from? Have you only got 1 piggy? if you have 2 then the other could catch it so its important to get him in to see a Vet ASAP.

She might be more willing if you pay part of the bill or if you show her research that it won't get better on its own? Definitely check to see if you can have the store pay the bill since they sold you a sick pig

I have heard of it but dont think we have one in the UK.. before you even consider getting another piggy - you need to make sure your first one is treated and clear from infection.

He will need a friend to be happy but please talk to your mum about getting him checked at the vets - I cant stress this enough.

My local pets at home started out as petsmart. It started out great then went rapidly downhill. Pets at home started rubbish and are very very slowly getting better lol

I dont think I have ever seen a Pets Smart near me... I think there might have been one but it closed down - I think.. I always look in on the piggies at PAH to make sure they have hay!

Since the RSPCA got involved all the pets at home's around me have been pretty good, still not great but they always have hay, water, plenty if hides and pellets. They still say hamsters like companions though, guess it's one step at a time

surprisingly the petsmart near my home is excellent! they have great customer service and all the workers know a TON about the pigs!

yes! i actually convinced my mom and we will be taking him May 28th. can’t wait to get him help!
Tell her that they are brilliant pets and theu are way overlooked. Just give them the chance they deserve. They are like little dogs, given the chance. If you get your pig a friend, honestly you will have so much laughter watching them interact with eachother and you will see how much happier they are
