We have recently moved to a new area and my guinea pig radar was on high alert when I noticed that our neighbours had a guinea pig.

This guinea pig lives in a little hutch all by itself. It looks healthy and well fed from what I can see.

However, they never let it out of the hutch or pet it. It gets no interaction other than their stupid little dog barking at it whenever the dog is in the garden.

They also never put the cover down. The hutch has a waterproof cover but they always leave the flap up when its cold or raining and durinv those thunderstorms.

My guinea pigs also live outside so its not that I have a problem with but my pigs are covered from the weather and insulated and also have an attatched run for them to pop in and out whenever they like.

I cannot bare to see any animal suffering and I really want to say something to the lady but she is not very friendly and my boyfriend said we shouldn't interfer but I cant see that poor little pig shivering away in the rain :(

I agree with piggyfan, then at least you know that you have done something to try and help the guinea pig

I agree that this is wrong! I do. But from experience the RSPCA Don't do much unless there is sign of illness or mistreatment. If the pig is fed and watered and healthy as far as can be seen I doubt they will offer any help. Maybe you could offer to let it out for her? Or make friends with her so you can check on it? :)

I agree with @Holly_Bramble The RSPCA won't do anything if its fed, watered, clean and in a suitable enclosure. They wont be able to see that the cover is not going down during bad weather or that they are not handling him, even if they come out at all! Any chance of you having words with them (politely)?

My friend has two in a small cage that don't have a great life but if I have a go at her I can't help them.I give her hay and veggies and substrate when she hasnt any and no money. The only reason they are in a 100 ,cm cage is because I gave her it when I upgraded to c&c, previously they were in a 70 cm cage.Could you maybe ask her about vets to open up a conversation?

Hello, you could try saying you also have guinea pigs and get talking about them, she may even be happy for you to take her guinea pig on if you could. I have known quite a lot of guinea pigs who never get out of their cage over the years, people keep them like hamsters.
