My new guinea pig had babies!

Hi, I recently added a new guinea pig to my herd...then discovered she was pregnant when we bought her. She's just had 2 beautiful babies last night. Would anyone be able to help tell if they're boys or girls? Thank you

Baby B (ginger bum) is definitely a very nice textbook girl. With baby A I am not sure of the gender; at this early stage it is a bit of an in-betweenie. With a little luck it may turn out to be another girl.

What you can do is feel mum and baby A in the area where there is a male penis shaft so you know how it feels if there is none. Then feel baby B; if it is boy, then there is a tiny hard bump just below the skin; a bit like a broken bit of a basmati rice corn in terms of size. This is often a sexing clincher for very young pups whose genitalia are not quite textbook but not one we can do for you.

I would also recommend that you review the gender with us in 2 weeks' time when the genitalia become a bit clearer, just to be on the safe side.

Aww thank you so much for your amazing response, yes mum and babies are doing really well, wasn't sure how she was going to be with them as she's still a baby herself, but she's been amazing. I couldn't feel a penis shaft so fingers crossed for a girl so they can all stay together! Yes, it is. All the best. Make sure that you take plenty of pictures and videos. Babies grow up so very fast.

But please post some pictures of your little mum and babies. We love to see them and not just their undercarriage...

As you are new to the forum I doubt if anyone has mentioned that some photos need a cuteness warning otherwise the unexpected overload of cuteness makes some of us melt
