Hello,
On Easter weekend I brought my daughter's a guinea pig and we named him Norman. Shortly after we had him home within a few days I noticed him scratching and biting at his belly, legs, and sides a lot. I did some research and thought I had it down to mites, so I treated him in invermectin, well it hasn't helps. Last night I had the little guy on the couch with me and noticed from scabbing around his left ear and eye, he kept jumping around (which is normal) but then he would kind of fall on his side. Norm is usually very active but last night he just kept laying on his side or laying next to me. We have grown to love this little man and I would hate to see anything happen to him. I did schedule an appointment for the vet for tomorrow but I'd like to hear if anyone has had a similar case to Norm's and the outcome. I have bathed him once so far and cleaned out his cage very well. Any advice would help. Thanks.

He needs to see the vet as you are doing. Could be fungal or mites. What ivermeticin were you using?

Good that you have booked him in at a vets; the sooner the better!

He could have mange mites or fungal/ringworm, which needs entirely different treatment. It would also be good if your vet checked the ears in case his balance is affected by an unrelated issue (ear mites/ear infection/neurological problem) or whether the falling over is related to the skin problem.

Apathy is always an alarm sign that something serious is wrong.

Please always have your guinea pigs vet checked (and sexed) upon arrival, unless you are rehoming from a good standard rescue with mandatory quarantine/vet care.

Thanks everyone, he goes today and 3:15 I'll keep you all posted. Super nervous!

067E5EF8-821C-4F9E-AC43-418C20A03523.webp Norm had his appointment he has mites. He was given a shot and he will get another in 3 weeks. He’s gonna be alright!

Glad it is something straightforward to fix. It makes them so itchy!
He is very sweet!
Beware that he may need another injection after the first 2 - I think 3 doses is the usual to make sure the egg / mite life cycle is really broken.

Hello and welcome to the forum! Glad your little one is getting sorted :)
