Today I had the opportunity to adopt a new piggy! He will be in quarantine for a few weeks and then I will introduce him to my other boar, Mike. Fingers crossed that they like each other :hug:He is 3 months and no name yet. Open to thoughts!

Gorgeous!

As he is under four months of age he cannot be quarantined, the social needs of youngsters are so great that you must forego quarantine and bond with another piggy straight away (And accept you may have to treat them both of the new piggy has brought anything in).

Gorgeous! Hope the bonding goes well.

Stripe or Lightning comes to mind when I see him

Aww he is gorgeous, I like the name Mars as he is similar colours to a Mars bar! And you would have two M’s 😂

Bonding is going very well for all those wondering! Lots of licking, butt sniffing, and attempted humping from Mike. Mike was cleaning himself beside baby pig and they are getting along well so far. The room is a little stinky though, lol. I read the guide on this site and will keep them here in their bonding area, and hopefully after they have a nap will still be getting along.

@rp1993 Mars is really neat, he does look like a Mars bar! I will consider this!

They seem very comfortable with one another! Mike is doing a lot of humping but it’s not to the point where baby pig can’t eat or drink so I think it’s still going well. Mike is laying down for some rest now.

The boys took a nap (side by side!) in their bonding cage and were doing great afterwards, so I thought it was time to bring them into their permanent cage. They will be living in a critter nation assembled side-by-side. I believe the measurements are 60cm by 180cm. They can’t leave each other’s side! Mike never got along with Hippo (his old cagemate) but they did tolerate each other enough to live together. This is so pleasant to witness. We are thinking of naming him Tino (from the Weekenders).

Aw, this has made my day! What handsome little companions they make ❤️ Hope they have a lovely life together!

Congratulations on your new gorgeous boy. I think the name Bodwin suits him 😁. No idea why it just popped into my head when I saw the pics. Hope the bonding goes well

Thanks everybody! 😄

Regarding my new piggy (Tino), I have noticed that one of his eyes seems squinted. It looked fine yesterday but today it seems very squinty compared to the other eye. For example, I saw him laying down with his eye closed and I thought “cute he’s sleeping” but his other eye was wide open. Even when moving around it seems a little bit smaller than the other. There is no redness around the eye, could he be sick possibly? Here is him “sleeping” but his eye was just closed while the other one was open.

Glad it's going well. Unfortunately bonding is always a stressful time and can make piggies more prone to illness. He could perhaps have hay poke? The best thing to do would be to get him seen by a vet sorry I can't help more. @Piggies&buns

Yes, a vet check is needed. Eyes are classed as urgent so do get him seen ASAP as it could be a haypoke.

would a regular dog/cat vet be able to see him do you think? I figure eyes are pretty similar between the animals, or should I travel to another vet further away?

Eye treatment is the same for all animals so yes. All the best and hope it's something simple.

So I contacted the 3 nearest vets to me and 2 of them were completely slammed until the 2nd week of January. The 3rd vet is the vet I typically go to and they were willing to see me today, but due to distance would arrive after their closing time. I have an appointment for 10AM on Monday. Sadly there are no emergency vets in my location. I am in a small Atlantic Canada province so not too many demand for these services I suppose. The receptionist at the vet sounded very knowledgeable and she suggested I put drops in his eye over the weekend to keep it moist, incase there is a burning or itching to it. Does that sound right?

Oh no, what a pity! It would have been better if they had seen the piggy rather than just say to put in eyedrops. If it's hay poke and there is some stuck in there then I don't know whether eyedrops would help. Issue is it scratching away or being damaged. Are they not open tomorrow? Sorry you're stuck. Keep the Monday appointment and perhaps ask the other two if they can contact you when there's a cancellation.

No sadly they are not open on weekends and we live in the kind of location where everything closes at 5pm :mal:

Tino’s eye looks normal again (maybe it was irritated slightly previously) so that’s good news. I will keep the appointment on Monday just incase and also to get a general health check 🧐

Aww hope Tino is ok. Is your carrier big enough for 2 piggies? Especially since they are so newly bonded I'd take both Mike and Tino out with you, separating them and reintroducing them could put a stress on the bond they have built

Fyi tino is adorable. :)

Thank you! And yes, I do have a large cat carrier that I plan on putting them in for the drive. Mike hasn’t been to the vet in a while so it’ll be a 2 in 1 checkup 😊
