MY OLD LADY

sorry I'm not very good with technology spent ages writting about my eldest piggy and dont no whats happened to it :tickedoff:

I'll try again...................... i have had my oldest guinea pig for 7 yrs and she was between 8 and 12 months when i had her, she had been severly neglected which led to her sisters death, they were left for days at a time without food and water in a tiny hutch that would have been more suited for a hamster. She is one of the kindest natured piggys that i have ever owned, she doesn t move around much anymore and her fur is getting very thin but she shouts the loudest in the morning when I'm chopping fruit and veg for their breakfast. Her appetite is fine and she s always first in the food dish the problem i have is that she keeps getting problems with her feet which she has antibiotics for , the vet thinks this keeps happening because of her lack of movement and lying in the same place as she s going to the toilet . She lives indoors and spends a lot of time out of her cage which is cleaned out daily and I'm really at a loss what else to do .

Awww she sounds like a real sweetie, what is her name?

Could you perhaps try her with a fleece / vetbed to sleep on so that it's soft on her feet - you can cut it into bits and then pop it into the washing machine so one bit is being washed while the other is in the cage - it would absorb the wee too?

she is !! her names speedy not very glamorous i no but my son named her that because of how fast she moved when she saw us . I ll try and post some pictures of her and the other 15 piggies that live with me , it could take a while because I'm not very good ! ;D 98)

Would love to see pics - you need to register at www.photobucket.co.uk and then upload them onto there - then once they're in your album, just copy and paste the bottom link that starts into your forum post - good luck!

Speedy - bless!

Aw, thats really nice to hear that despite her awful start in life - she's certainly making up for it and having a long happy life with you! She's a very lucky piggy. One of my girls barely moves out the cage (I leave the door open all the time when I'm in the house so that they can come and go as they please) so far her feet have been ok but I keep an eye on her.

welcome to the forums from me and the girls in oz :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: so glad speedy found you after the terrible start she had in life. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

she is a real cutie :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: as they all are :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: i am guessing the black and white one in the bowl and not the black and white one with a black butt in it's face :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: they all look happy and contented, and very well looked after. hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
it is funny how they are all in one bowl when there is two bowls to choose from :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: love them happy fluffy piggies girls send :-* :-* :-*

hi choloe and piggies, and thanks, you did read right with speedy i have 16 piggies and one of them is pregnant . Most of my piggies are long haired . I have 13 sows and 3 boars most of which i have due to people getting bored of them ! This amazes me , how can people get bored of such fabulous little things ? i dont only have piggies , my pet family is quite large. I have 2 dogs, 8 cats , 8 mice , 2 hamsters , 6 chinchillas, 3 rabbits and 7 3wk old baby bunnies, and finally 3 fish tanks . The problem is i cant say no to people s unwanted pets and strays. what can i say I'm crazy about animals!!! but piggies are my passion :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

speedy is the one in the bowl , :) there is no way that girl would sit with a butt in her face when theres food around :D :smitten: :smitten:! she might be old but she still loves her food , i ll take some more pics of her tomorrow (so that you can actually see her face ) :smitten: hugs and :-* :-* :-* :-*to your piggies from me and mine :-* :-*

mine have their moments , there only behaving because theres food around :) ive got 2 sheltie sisters that have always lived with my other girls and for some reason yesterday the 1 sheltie and 2 of my peruvians decided they dont like the other sheltie and started to attack her , when she ran off they chased her and wouldn t leave her alone so ive had to separte them and she is now in with speedy and mavis ( shes the pregnant 1) because both of them are quiet and calm, she s 61/2 months old but is very tiny, her sister is alot bigger and its not just the usual little niggles that they usually have , its like they were possesed and it was only her they were doing it to. I ll try them again tomorrow and hope whatever was bothering them is out of their system :o

awwwww your pigs are gorgeous, lets see some more pics :smitten: :smitten:

Do you mean she has hock sores?
My boar Charcoal (R.I.P) didnt move around much towards the end either and had sore feet.
He developed hock sores the last week of his life and I put him onto vet bed, which seemed to make him more comfortably but didnt really heal the sores, they were there more as pressure sores from sitting still so much.
Gorgeous Guineas has a cream for sore piggy feet, if Id have known about it when Charcoal had problems I soooooooo would have got him some.
You should give it a try, they get it to you realllllly quickly and Chrissie is lovely and helpful.
Let us know how she gets on.
xx Steph xx

her feet are all swollen , thanks for the info about the cream I'm gonna have a look now , i ll try anything as she s such a lovely little piggy and i want to make her as comfortable as possible :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Great, was it Perfect Paws? I've got that for my oldies and it works a treat - they seem to quite like having their feet massaged! :smitten:
