I have two pigs with a wide age gap (Sundae is over 5.5 years now, Hadley turned one not long ago.) Hadley still wants to run around like a maniac and Sundae wants to lay down and snooze. Every night during free time, I put down snacks for them in the hallway. Sundae usually eats, sniffs around a bit, and then goes back in the cage. Hadley eats, then runs around in circles and keeps trying to entice Sundae to do the same. She will run around, then goes up the ramp and peers in at Sundae and sometimes will squeak at her. She is plainly trying to get Sundae to 'play' with her. Sundae is not having it at all! I feel kind of bad for Hadley... I really never wanted to have a big age gap like this. It just unfortunately worked out that way.

Whichever way you look as this, they are better with each other as company so, unless you have room for more guinea pigs, I would leave things as they are.

Oh, I will be. There isn't really another option, and they do get along well. I just think that Hadley is puzzled as to why she has so much more energy than her buddy and as to why Sundae doesn't want to run around in circles for ages every night! I would expect that Hadley will outlive Sundae by quite a bit and will end up with a friskier buddy sooner or later (though hopefully later as we would love to keep Sundae around for a long time!)

My first piggy was a single sow rehomed to me. She had not had company since she was little and she was approx 2 years old when she came to me. I quickly got her a baby (around 10 weeks old I think). As I was new to piggies I was going for the safe option, as I had read that adults generally accept babies, whereas introducing two adults can be hit-and-miss. I'm not so nervous now....
Anyhow, little'un (Sunrise) was often to be seen racing around her cage, whereas Shadow would usually just watch, but she was so chuffed to have company that it really didn't matter. Like you though I wondered if Sunrise missed piggies her own age, but it all turned out fine.
Yours have each other, and that's the main thing :)
