My Patchy has poo problems...any advice?

My lovely big boy Patchy has been the healthiest of all 4 of my piggles until today.

He was in his cage next to me on the computer after having his veggie brekky as usual (all eaten and not even a crumb left!) when he made a funny sounding high pitched squeal which I have never heard him make before. I lifted him out and he settled instantly so I just thought perhaps he was wanting attention as he didn't get any exercise yesterday due to us being out all day till about midnight.

However, after a few minutes I noticed him straining to poo and the squeak started again and when I checked his botty, there was what looked like 2 or 3 poos all clumped together half in and half out of him. I obviously wiped it out with a tissue but the same happened again after about 5 minutes. Cleaned him again and he has perked right up!

I have now checked his cage and there are 1 or 2 poos that look the same as the others - but most are normal pellets. They are light brown in colour and no discernable smell.

Any ideas on what it may be? My hubby said he gave him a small piece of apple yesterday when they don't normally have fruit so wondering if that may have upset him.

Anyhoo - he is perfectly happy in himself now I have cleaned him up but I am obviously keeping a very close eye on him. He is eating hay, drinking and popcorning around the cage!

I have cleaned his cage out so I can watch the "poo" situation for the next 24 hours!

I will keep him off the veggies I think for the rest of the day and see what happens - just hay and pelletes are ok aren't they for one day?

BTW, Patchy is just over 1 year old.

I would take him off any fresh food for a day or two and see whether that will do the trick. Weigh him daily.

If things don't get better or he looks off/loses weight, have him seen by a vet please.

Also check his bits for signs of impaction and rods of boar glue stuck around his penis.

Thanks so much Wiebke for your prompt reply - it's very helpful. I def will leave off the veggies for today at least - thank goodness hubby and I are on holday this week so we are at home to keep an eye on him day and night. And thankfully, our vet is literally just across the road if needed!

He is having an afternoon nap atm as he usually does at this time of day but as soon as he wakes I will get him out and check his manly area more thoroughly lol! I have been looking through all sorts of old threads on here and on Guinealynx too - seems to be if boys are - ahem - well endowed down below, they are more likely to suffer with these kind of problems! And Patchy is certainly well endowed hee hee!

Well - after a long day of starving poor Patchy Poo hee hee - he seems to be just fine today thank goodness!

Poos all back to normal and he is at present racing around the floor playing with the 2 younger piggles, Oscar and Cookie!

I did as Wiebke suggested and checked his nether regions thoroughly and all seems fine and clean so it must have just been a one off thank goodness. Will obviously keep a close eye on things though, just in case. Sigh - always summat to worry about with pet ownership eh?
