He's a lovely little piggy and is just over 12 weeks but he is a right pain in the bum to groom! Since he is a peruvian I try to give him a little groom at least every other day so he gets use to it but the little wosit will not sit still! Especially when it comes to giving him a trim. Now he has woken up going to try and give him a trim, this should be fun!

I tend to give long haired guinea pigs a good haircut as, although they look pretty, they tend to get overheated and struggle to keep themselves clean. I'm quite lucky with Priscilla the long haired piggy I have at present in that she's very placid. I tend to start at the back of the neck with a pair of sharp round ended scissors and cut half an inch width of fur off at a time. It's a long job and sometimes I do it in several sessions. You have to have them quite calm to do the bum. She looks a little silly, but she doesn't know that and is much livelier with less coat.

Oh good luck :) If you keep at him every other day he should get used to it in time. I have 1 long haired piggy (Candy) and she originally hated being groomed but is a lot better now...she mainly needs trimmed at the back end or else she pees on it and it ends up wet and in a mess.... so better kept short there :))

My peruvian hated being just touched anywhere other then his nose :)) I think it might be something to do with their hair. It would probably be easiest to have someone hold him with a bit of veg or something if you can do that?

My house doesnt tends to get a bit chilly and in the summer he will be back out in the hutch in the shed so going to keep his coat fairly long, obviously no where near as long as the show piggies that look like mops ;)

I keep grooming him as he is still young so he will learn to like it :P

I always put out a bit of veg but as soon as I go to trim the hair around his bum he trys to run off haha. Although he loves to snuggle in my arms and will sit there for ages and purrs :)

My little texel absolutely hates being brushed, she wheeks like I'm murdering her or something! :o I trim her hair now, especially round the back as otherwise it just drags, she still looks pretty and has lovely curls it's just more manageable all round.

It might be an idea to have someone help you hold him and calm him whilst you trim him just incase he decides to leg it!

Just keep at it, and have someone else hold him. My old Shelite hated being brushed anywhere lower than his shoulders he used to kick out his back legs and scream, so eventually i gave in and just cut it all really short, but he's been an exception ... usually it's just their "baby-ness" getting in the way of them wanting to sit still and have their hair done.
