hi everyone i was hoping someone could help me, my 9 year old piggie seth had a stroke today, his eyes were rolling, he had lost the use of his legs on the right hand side of his body, he came out of it, he is eating and drinking fine, but now he cannot walk and he is lifting up his front right leg, the vet says give it time, i am going to try hydrotherapy i have used this on my other piggies, has anyone else had this experience with their piggie and did they get the use of their legs again, i had to put water in a bowl, and that is sitting with the food bowl next to seth, and he seems to have lost his voice.

Sorry I have no experience, but I just wanted to say that I hope he recovers, and hopefully someone with more experience will come along and offer better advice!

I am so sorry to hear this. I have no experience with this at all but just wanted to send healing vibes to Seth xx

Has he actually seen the vet? if not I would get him there ASAP so they can assess him, as he's 9 it is best to get him checked out. I have been told that the first 48 hours after a stroke are crucial. I have not had this happen with my own pigs but have with hamsters and one of my pigs used to be prone to small TIA type fits.

he has seen a vet and all they said was give it time, he is cleaning his front leg alot i think that is his problem i am going to try him in a hydrotherapy/bath as he has peed all over himself, he is ok in himself, eating drinking out a bowl, so its just about getting his legs working again, mostly the front one, i was surprised the vet did not give him any metacam incase he has pain in his legs, i might ask for some myself, could the fact he took a reaction to the xeno 450 have anything to do with his stroke, it was 2 weeks ago, he became so itchy, he had a steriod injected into him, he is also epileptic, has a grade 2 heart murmur, and through all this he is still here and fighting i envy him he is a star.

So to hear this, I have no experience with Strokes, hoping an experienced member may see this post soon. Lots of recovery vibes to your piggie

I am so sorry. One of mine had a stroke and recovered! She was 6 though. I hope Seth pulls through. 9 is a good age well done for helping a piggy to get to that age.

Wishing poor Seth all the best. Keep him quiet and comfy so he can settle down as much as possible.

It is possible that his reaction to the Spot on didn't help though I can't be certain, I am not too sure what triggers a stroke. The TIAs that my Buzz had were linked to his neurological problems. He sounds like a little fighter. I can't remember what we have discussed before, is he on any heart medication?

That is great news :) my 2 1/2 year old boy had a stroke and didn't recover - my vet was very upfront and said that they are hardy little things, guinea pigs. If they are going to recover from something like that, you will see improvement quickly (normally overnight post treatment) If not, they won't get any better. Seth will be with you for a while yet :)

seth is seth again, no shaking, and moving around normally, he is a right old fighter, 2 years ago he was so ill, the vets wanted to put him to sleep, he pulled through, and now he has survived a stroke, hopefully he does not suffer another one, that was a scary few days, i do feel bad though as he has out lived all his best friends and he now will not go near any the others, i think he feels they will leave him too
