Hi everyone! Hope everyone is doing ok.
I thought I would post I am worried sick with my guinea snowy
She had a uti a couple of months back , took her to the vet and had antibiotics injections it cleared everything up.

Now today I give her a bath and the towel has blood on it , I ring around for vets to be open (my normal vet was closed) while putting her in her run on a picnic blanket she started weeing in patches and there was a lot of blood .

The out of hours vets said that all they would do would be to give her antibiotics and I would have to go to my normal vet for a proper consultation so cue me keeping an eye on her to see if she gets worse or not her poos are now mushy too with blood spots but don’t know if it’s because it could be mixed with wee the thing is... she’s eating fine squeaking for her veggies etc but she has barely drunk at all today.

I am taking her to the vets in a few hours when they open but in the mean time I am so confused she has been losing fur for quite a few months now and the vet put it down to mites that she had a problem with when they went away she thought she could have skin allergies? I know it’s a sign of ovarian cysts.
I took her to my mums today who also said she doesn’t look great and she looked like she has lost weight (last time she had a uti she had lost a couple of ounces) also when I do take her to the vets if they jus try and give her medicine again should I demand tests/scan ? Will be staying up with her tonight worried , thank you for reading...

Don't get too stressed. Passing blood can have a number of causes, your vet will check her and advise on further investigation. Ovarian cysts are common in sows and can be associated with uterine bleeding, so a ultra sound scan to check that out might be an idea. Xrays are needed to diagnose bladder stones, most vets will do these conscious

Hi there sorry I haven’t replied straight away it’s been crazy over here with snowy not being well , turns out she has a tumour in her uterus and in her mammory glands the vet said they think they are non cancerous and I need to make the decision wether to put her through 2 surgeries or not I don’t know what to do x

So sorry to hear this. If you get her spayed (uterus and ovaries removed) then her hormone levels will drop. The mammary tumours will probably then disappear if they are not cancerous. If they persist they could be removed at a later date

Oh wow I didn’t know that could happen, first they said that she had a tumour in her uterus and they wanted to to see if it had spread to her mammory glands and it has but they are saying they don’t think they are cancerous but the risks are high and they need to spay her to be 100% and it’s alot more complicated with putting her through 2 surgeries I’m scared I’m gonna lose her either way she’s 3 and a half)

It's very worrying when a piggy needs surgery.
However with a good vet who is experienced with piggies a spay can go well.
Last year I ended up having 2 of my girls spayed due to ovarian cysts.
Jemimah's was emergency surgery - she was about 3 and a half, Phoebe's were found early, she was about a year old.

Both girls came through the surgery well and are thriving.

It's important to ensure that they have adequate pain meds, be prepared to syringe feed post surgery until she starts eating properly again.
Be aware that it's the 2 - 3 days after surgery that can be the most worrying - be watchful.

It will be nerve wracking for you and there are risks with any surgery.

Will be thinking of you.

oh okay thank you , I know she could be fine in one surgery but she would be going under twice that scares me , my family have all said not to put her through it and let her love the next couple of months of her life. I am so confused and worried she has been putting on weight which is a good sign but she’s still got discharge , thank you for your story merab’s slave it’s always nice to hear positive ones ❤️ x
Has anyone else had a similiar situation? With having two tumours in two different places what ddI you decide to do ? X
