I'm shocked.

She was fine this morning, now shes gone. She was so unwell suddenly this afternoon she had to be put to sleep, to shorten her suffering.

I'm not sure how to process this.

I loved her so much.

I'm worried my other 3 will miss her.

I just needed to post this. It sounds silly to be so upset but I loved her, we had a special bond.

Aw I’m so sorry for your loss :( Sadly piggies can go downhill very quickly.

Try not to worry about her friends. They will grieve in their own way and they have each other

Sleep tight Ginny xx

It's not silly at all to be upset she was a member of your family and you loved her. People on here understand the pain of losing a guinea pig. Piggies hide their illnesses so well that when you notice something is wrong it is often very wrong. It was the last act of love you could show Ginny Pig. She is out of pain now and popcorning and playing zoomies at the Rainbow Briege.

I am so sorry; sometimes it can blow up like this right out of the blue. It may take a while for you until it sinks in; sometimes your soul can put an extra skin between you and your feelings until you are ready for them. It is very normal to be upset; it is depth of the bond and not the species that is relevant. We can often be truer with our emotional life with our pets than with anybody else. Your feelings upon your loss will reflect that. Grieving is the other side of the coin called 'loved'. It is exactly as large or small as your love has been.

Please don't beat yourself up if you are just numb and are feeling empty for a while or if you are overwhelmed by your emotions. The first is perfectly fine and allows you to absorb the shock before you can start to process your grieving process; it is not uncommon after a shock death. The second is stronger when you have the surprise and the pain hitting all at once.
You have done absolutely the right thing; I had to do the same with my Gethin at the of October as the last one to go very quickly.

Give Ginny Pig's mates time to grieve; they are going to be very quiet and subdued for a few days. If you have brought the body home, then allow them to say goodbye but accept if they mostly ignore it because they know that something serious was wrong with their friend and they have likely already taken their leave anyway. So no feelings of guilt if you have left Ginny Pig at the vet's. Because they have each other, you shouldn't have to worry about acute pining. They will come out of it whenever they are ready. Piggies don't feel any less deeply but their survival instinct is more immediate.

Please take the time to read the information via this guide link. It is there to help you make sense of what has just happened, understand where you stand in the grieving process and where to get support of needed. It also gives you the kind of practical advice on what to do and look out for in your piggies: Death, Dying, Terminal Illness, Grieving and Bereaved Companions: Information and Support for Owners and Their Children

Just be kind with yourself and don't get hung up over any expectations how you 'should' feel or get stuck on what you may have done wrong. You haven't failed Ginny Pig in any way and your grieving will process in its own way and at the speed that you can cope with.

Thank you so much everyone.

I had to leave her at the vet so she can be cremated. Her sister seems a bit quiet but the other two were demanding veggies like nothing happened. Maybe they havent noticed.

I gave her the best life and she will be so loved forever.

I’m so sorry you had to let Ginny go over the bridge, sending hugs, it’s such a shock when this happens out of the blue x
Sleep tight gorgeous girl 🌈

So very sorry for your loss.
A guinea pig can suddenly appear unwell and pass away or have to be helped to avoid suffering.
It’s a horrible shock and will take some time to process.
Be gentle with yourself as you grieve

The others have noticed but piggies can - like humans - react very differently. Some will grieve very openly and others will just carry on. It doesn't say necessarily anything about their depth of feeling; the same as with humans.

Oh I’m sorry. This happened here last month. Timmy was fine, came out to say hello for breakfast then literally 5 minutes later he was clearly dying. For it to just turn on a sixpence was so shocking. I’m sorry it happened to you.

Be gentle with yourself. They get under your skin these little personalities and they leave a big hole when they are gone.

Take care xx

My condolences to you, your family and remaining herd. Please know you did your best and your piggy will forever love you. Godspeed and try and have a good holiday.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Popcorn high at the bridge Ginny Pig. Take care ❤️

I'm so sorry for your loss! There is nothing silly about being upset... pets are part of the family, naturally we love them and grieve when they pass! Everyone here understands that. Sudden losses can be so hard because there is no time to prepare emotionally. ((HUGS)) to you and your other piggies.
