Hi, I have 2 piggies 1 male and 1 female. The male pig I have had for a couple of months now and he's about 16 weeks and his weight seems to fluctuate around 625 grams. Why is he not putting on weight?

My female guinea pig I got on monday. When I got her she was 625 grams now she has gone down to 575! Why has she lost weight?

Thanks.

Would you kindly tell me if your male is neutered, yet? It's really unwise to be keeping them together if not, as pregnancies could be horrible. And sorry if I'm judging, but seeing from your avatar, it seems like they're staying together.

To address your question, I'd suggest you find a Guineapig-savvy vet near you to take a look at them.

Take your piggy to the vet

Weight loss can be a sign of another health problem, and a vet should be able to diagnose and treat this problem. Are the piggies eating?

Hope they are ok
xx

The piggies in my avatar are not my current piggies as they passed away in january. The male is neutered.

Thanks, the pigs are eating there daily veg, nuggets and hay

NOTE: It has been quite warm recently could this be anything to do with it?

Unless it has been too hot for them where they are then the weather is unlikely to be the cause but if it is too hot for them then it could be serious so they need a vet asap. I notice you only got the female recently so she could still be settling in. Bumble was 4 months old when we got her and spent about a month or two yoyo-ing around a certain weight before steadily gaining. Again are they scratching? it might be that they are prone to mites and the rehousing or new housing situation has brought on a bout. They still need to see a vet though asap as poor little piggies can go downhill so quick

I'm going through the same think my piggie stig is loosing weight and it's not doing his respiratory infection any good! Take you piggie to the vet, it could be something underlying!

Thanks, I havent noticed scratching.

please go to a vets asap. One of my boys, comanche recently had to be pts because of an absess. he lost most of his bodyweight within 6 days, despite getting treatment. I was shocked how quick it happened :(
hope everything is ok x
