Hi guys, another issue...

My piggies aren't drinking enough, if any water...why?! They have a water bottle that works fine and I have put a bowl in their cage just in case they prefer that. One of my boys seems a bit slower and not very energetic at all..what's going on?!

What can I do to help encourage them to drink? And why wouldn't they be drinking? ?/:...

i'm sorry i don.t know enough about your piggy to say. Unless your piggy has been previously drinking lots and has now stopped, i wouldn't worry. If it is a new piggy, then they often don.t drink until they feel settled into their new home (a few days) then they start sneaking a drink at night when you're not watching! Some piggies just don.t drink much and get what they need from the veg and fruit. You can give cucumber if you are worried but as long as your piggy seems well try not to worry. Another tip is to feed all veg well rinsed and damp

A lot of piggies get the water they need from the veg. If they are peeing and pooing ok, eating and are happy then don't worry. I have 6 piggies and there's only a couple that regularly hit the bottle :(|) veg has a high water content, so it gives them what they need.

:)

Thank you. I feel a lot better about them now. They are still relatively new but always have fresh veggies so maybe that is what is hydrating them. They both still seem happy and healthy and their poop and pee is normal.
Thank you again for your help :)

Just a quick question, you haven't put anything in the water, have you? Some pet stores encourage new owners to add vitamin c to the water, but most pigs won't go anywhere near their bottle if you do. As long as they have a healthy, balanced diet then they will get plenty of vitamin c :)

Machu pretty much stopped drinking entirely once he started getting twice daily veg. It worried me at first, so what I did was wash his lettuce, then put it in the food dish still wet, so he'd get some extra water that way. You can always do that if you're worried!

Little Yoshi drinks loads (and very loudly at that!) now that he's settled in, despite the veg. But, as tabelmabel said, when I first got him I would hear him sneak a drink at night, but he wouldn't go near the bottle if I was watching him.

None of my piggies seem to drink either! However, its apparently okay for my piggies, as they get a big bowl of fresh food each day(lettuce, vegetables etc) and they get free run of the garden which means they get all the grass, '*** my dad blocked off all the holes with bits of wood, and mine seem to be very healthy;)

Thanks for this post, it's really helpful. My piggies never seem to drink either and I was a little worried why. Thanks everyone x
