I have recently adopted two adorable 18 month old girls, and I've decided to make a diary of my journey with them :)

On about the 13th March, I decided to look for a new rabbit, but I stumbled across this advert for two guinea pigs free to a good home instead!

This is the picture that I first saw of them, on the facebook pet page. I brought them into their new home on the 15th March 2014

This is Nutmeg (left) and Truffles (right) about a week after I got them.

~2 weeks 4 days~

So far, I have got my piggies to eat out of my hand and act almost normally when I'm around. However, I can't touch them although they don't mind my hand being close to them. They seem to love the camera and they are such photogenic piggies XD

Nutmeg and Truffles are beautiful  I really like the idea of a diary, looking forward to seeing lots more photos of them

Thanks for all the cute messages everyone!

So, I think I may have scared my piggies when I attempted to touching them:oops:, so I'm just back on talking and feeding basis. Which I don't really mind because they're ever so cute! I think I shall continue this until they start getting into their routine, then I will try the touching again. Not too soon though, I don't want to freak them out!

Again I got them both to eat out of my hand and really close to my hand, they came out of their hidey hole only a few seconds after I showed them the food :)

The evening light was beautiful and I got lovely pictures of both of them. Here's Meggy (Nutmeg) - please ignore the poop, I took it before I cleaned out their cage!

Truffles turned her back on me to go and eat, but I got this gorgeous photo of her back. Her colours are so lovely and the evening light makes it even better <3

This is right before I left them when it got dark out the back (it looks waaay darker than it was haha!)

So today I got them eating out of my hand, staying when I talked to them, was present when they made a few little noises, and got to close the cage and leave while they were still out in the open :) (Sometimes they run away when I close the door or leave so it's always nice when they stay a little bit longer) I've just got to get them used to my hand being there without the fear I'm gonna touch them, it was easy enough the first time :3 let's just not scare them again

I'm so glad I adopted these girls , I think I shall forever be a Guineagirlie :)) rather than a Bunny person!

For the touching stage its a great idea to slowly put your hand near their nose and let them sniff it. You could do that for a couple of days before moving onto a gentle head tickle. When I greet my "tamed pigs" (not all of my are tamed yet) I go upto them slowly let them have a sniff of my hand whilst saying" hello (insert pigs name) its mummy". I then gentley move onto a head tickle and they seem to like it! If you say phrases whilst doing things they seem to get used to knowing what you are going to do and seem less frightened.

your girls are beautiful, totally understand why you fell in love with them

Ah, thanks that's a good tip Briony_S! My goodness I have been busy lately! But I have taken loads of pictures of my girls, I shall upload them with the next diary entry shortly x

Wow I've been busy busy busy, with my guinea pigs of course! So I've been getting them to come to me for snack time and talking to them and singing and stuff every day for almost three weeks. They're ever so cute :wub::wub:

10268102_10200923142240681_2087478365_n.webpThis is usually how things go, Truffles comes out first and Meggy (Nutmeg) follows closely behind

10261932_10200923142360684_1206760819_n.webp I love it when they both eat properly for me

10287217_10200923142280682_1696843131_n.webp And they're certainly not camera shy, I got this extreme close up of Truffles! I've tried saying little phrases and tickling their heads, but they still don't like to be touched. Nutmeg doesn't seem as scared as Truffles but still. I think I'm going to go try again with the talking and stuff :)

Oh my gosh! Everyone! ~MEGA UPDATE~ ~MEGA UPDATE~ ~MEGA UPDATE~ :yahoo:

Nutmeg let me stroke her!! :yahoo:

10253371_10200923142320683_826503639_n.webp I was luring her in with some cabbage and talking softly to her and she didn't run away when I let her smell my hand and so I just tried to stroke her and she did flinch but didn't run away and I kept on stroking her back and when I stopped she came up to me by the front of the cage and I stroked her some more!:luv:

I CAN STROKE ONE OF MY GUINEA PIGS! :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Well Done!! And btw LOVE that thumbnail pic of your baby on the post before your stroking update!

Haha thanks :xd: I did mean to put it in the actual post but I kinda forgot

Truffles won't let me stroke her really  But I'm working on her!:D

Now, they are just too far adorable! They look like they've gotten....more, bright and lively in their looks....for lack of better terms, since you've got them.

Your pigs are so cute. Do you know what breed they are and what age? I think a piggie diary is a great idea! I will definately keep an eye out for new posts.

:D thanks for all the nice messages everyone! x And yep, they're both Rex piggies and they're about 1 year 7 months old :)

Their outdoor hutch is all ready now for when they'll sometimes live there, as the room they're in can get awfully hot! 10154853_10200939039358099_486822130_n.webpYou can see the side of it in the background, hehe

10259389_10200939039398100_2095487027_n.webpNot quite petting Nutmeg here, but you get the idea :luv: I had just cleaned out their cage so their house wasn't in their cage, aww they look so lost without it!
10287186_10200939039318098_1432162205_n.webpI was using thing leaf as a reqard when Nutmeg let me stroke her for a while, and Truffles was getting very interested- but no treats for her if she won't let me pet her! :td:
10306833_10200939039478102_2013212624_n.webp At least she got her close-up!

I've got some great news and terrible news, and great news again.

1) Nutmeg let me hold her!
2) Yesterday both the girls fell ill and were acting awfully strange, They both picked up during the day but last night Truffles died in her sleep :(:( Nutmeg is so so sad, she's in perfect health but hasn't been wheeking :'( It's so awful, I miss her so much already :( bye Truffles :bye:
3) I can't bear to have Nutmeg all by herself, so this weekend I'm going to visit a pair of girls needing a new home and see if Meggy likes them

Okay, that's it for now

R.I.P Truffles <3
