Hello everyone. I guess I'm just looking for support during this very difficult time. My piggy, named Poofa, has developed an ovarian cyst and I'm scared to death. I took her to her vet today and after examining her, he presumed that she had a cyst and later confirmed that with an ultrasound. Ok, I know it's better than, say, cancer, but I also know that spaying a 3 year old piggy is risky. She is healthy aside from that, so I have scheduled her a spay a week from today. She is my first cavy and have learned a lot about them, but I had no idea she could develop a cyst. She is a member of our family and we all love her so much. Please pray, or send us positive thoughts please. I'm not ready to let her go. 😭

Sending you positive thoughts, try not to worry too much ( easier said than done) but 3 years old is fine, it's not too old to have an operation. And like you say, she's fit and healthy besides the cyst. A good vet will have the cyst removed fast ( less time under anaesthetic) should be good 👍

My gerbil is having an op in March for a scent gland tumour, so il be scared when it comes to that. 😔

Several of us in here have had sows spayed on health grounds, who were much older than 3, so in the right hands it is quite safe. The key is finding an experienced vet who you have confidence in. Good luck

After all, you would if it was any other professional you were paying 👍
