About a week or two ago I noticed my piggy Batpuff had what appeared to be a scab on her side. I assumed it was from fighting with her cagemate because they do that from time to time. So I left it alone to heal. Yesterday I was cuddling with her and checked on it and every time I would try to part her hair to look at it, she would squirm and make little squeaks. I trimmed the hair around the wound, cleaned it with a wet clothe, and put a tiny dab of antibacterial cream to help the pain. She seemed to calm down quite a bit once I put the cream on. Today I looked and it appears much cleaner but I still have absolutely no idea what it is and what to do. If this is something I can treat at home I would greatly prefer to do that but I can take her to the vet if it's an emergency.

Hi! it looks like a burst sebaceous cyst to me; these cysts are pretty common and harmless but they can get infected and they can refill, so if in doubt, please see a vet.

Thank you! What are some things I can do on my own to keep the area from becoming infected?
