My guinea pig, Daphne, and her pal, Colette stopped eating last Friday. We took them to the vet fairly immediately, the vet was...a bit incompetent to say the least. He barely checked them over, and simply gave them a probiotic. The next day, Colette passed away. Worried about Daphne, we took her to a different vet. He explained that something must have gotten into their food. His treatment plan was to give Daphne an extra high dosage of vitamin C, and to gently forcr feed her...to keep her going until she chooses to eat etc., on her own. Since then...she has been fairly perky...but she is STILL not eating on her own! It's been nearly a week. I have been offering her hay...And she's VERY interested, but still refuses to actually eat it. If anyone knows much on this kind of situation...can you please tell me when you'd expect Daphne to start eating on her own again? Any insight on this situation would be really appreciated. Thanks!

@HRC.00 I recommend a trip to yet another vet unfortunately. It sounds like she has bloat or a digestive issue caused by something she ate.

In a lot of cases like this the pig won't eat because they're in pain or the excess has or liquid in their gut makes them feel full.

You need some gut motility drugs such as Emeprid and/or Zantac to get the gut working and the gas/liquid out. Also some pain relief like Metacam would help with the discomfort.
