I know I havent used this site for some time but i thought i'd tell you that my beloved Honey passed away on tuesday. I'm gutted. SO gutted. He was only 1 and a half years old. He's always had a few breathing problems but nothing major until tuesday morning. I noticed his breathing was slightly laboured on monday night so i started him on his medicine for his chest again but I woke up on tuesday morning and noticed he'd become worse. I knew he was dying. His lips had turned a grey colour and he was struggling to get his breath. He wasnt eating or drinking or pooping. He couldnt. I gently picked him up and he was cold. His body tempurature had plumeted. He sat in my arms a little while ( tears streaming down my face) but i had to leave the house urgently for a few hours. I put him back in his cage with Brandy and i kind of knew i wouldnt see him alive again but i dismissed that thought. I even made an appointment at the vets for later on. I rushed home but it was too late. He'd gone.

I'm crying now typing this. I dont even think he would have made the journey to the vets on tuesday morning anyway. I'm so upset. If only i could have held him until he passed away. I'm completely heartbroken. Ive been off work now for 2 days just cuddling lonely little Brandy. The strange thing is is that i took them both to the vets on friday for a health check. Everything was fine. It was just all so sudden. Tears just keep rolling down my cheeks. I keep thinking 'did i do something wrong?, was it me?, was it the hay?, was it something in the air?' I really really hope he wasnt in any kind of pain. He probably was though if he couldnt get his breath. It just breaks my heart. It really does.

But for now i must find a friend for Brandy. She's coping well with lots of cuddles and affection. Ideally I'm after another castrated boar and I'm looking for a proper breeder with a good reputation, healthy pigs etc etc. I bought Honey and Brandy from Pets@Home and have had nothing but health problems with Honey. Luckily Brandy's been ok so far. She's 1 and half years old too. Honey was sexed as a girl when i first bought him (hence the name) only to find out he'd got Brandy pregnant. Ive just had so many problems since. I hate that place. I should have done my research before i bought my pigs but saying that i wouldnt change them/her now.

Anyway, I live in Derbyshire, Chesterfield way and if anyone can recommend a breeder then i'd be really really grateful. I dont mind travelling further a field either. I just want a healthy pig.

Sorry for rambling on. I just had to talk about my baby. He meant so much to me. :'(

Awwwwwwww ((((((((((((BIG HUGS FOR YOU))))))))))))) :)
R.I.P Honey 0:) :smitten:

What happened to Brandys babies :D

You have been a tough time and i really hope you get a friend for your piggy :smitten:

ramble away love. i am so sorry for your loss, keep your chin up time will heal the hurt,

I'm sorry i cant help with any breeders but i just wanted to send you some hugs xxxxx

So sorry to hear about your loss. Ramble all you like, that's what we're here for. Sending hugs to you and Brandy and like ILA suggested, try a local resuce who may well have a suitable new friend for Brandy.

I'm so sorry for your loss, I know the pain of loosing a young'un but I feel no matter their age it is always tough. Ramble away, it helps to get it all out.

I would also go to a rescue. There are some rescues on here, and if one is too far away we can set up on a pig train where people bring your new animal to you. :) Have a look on the rescue forum section. :)

Hiya, for what its worth I think your guinea went the best way, with a friend. Its horrible making that final journey to the vet (for them, never mind us!), Brandy will know what has happened to her friend and though that doesn't make it OK she will adjust a bit better and, I believe be able to move on. I can't tell you what happened but we don't know whats going on in their bodies so try not to beat yourself up about it :)

I'm a rescue and would recommend you let Brandy choose her own friend, they seem to be better at it than us :) Most rescues will let you take your guinea there and try them out, they are also more likely to have a ready castrated boar. Just remember that nothings a foregone conclusion :)

I'm so very sorry :'(
It sounds like you really loved her and I'm sure you did everything you could
RIP Honey 0:)
I cant really help with getting Brandy a friend but I hope you find one for her O0

so sorry to hear, I'm sure it wasn't anything you did. I would also recommend rescuing :)

She had 2 boys and 2 girls on xmas day 2006 :smitten:. The boys now live with my mum down in Devon. They're doing fine. I planned to keep one girl but in a few months she'd developed 2 large cysts on her lymph nodes behind her ears. She had to be put down. I was devasted. The other little girl went to the rspca. I just didnt have the room.

Thank you so much for all your kind words and support. It's means a lot to me. I'm going to hunt around for local rescues.

I'll keep you all updated and send a pic of my new pig when i finally get him or her.

Thank you all again :)

awwww i'm soo sorry to hear that :'( *MASSIVE HUGS FOR YOU AND BRANDY!* RIP little one 0:) :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
i really am sorry to hear that, bless him.
i'm sure it's nothing you did, don't blame yourself, it'll just make the pain worse. he's in a better place now where he won't be in any discomfort, but i know that it's hard to see that when your so upset. i got my first 2 from p@h too, ignorantly, and peony was already pregnant so i know how you feel about that! :tickedoff: luckily her and babies were fine and they still live with me :smitten:
i don't know your area so i can't recommend a rescue i'm afraid :)
chin up, massive hugs!
i hope little brandy is ok. when i had a pair of males and one died the other was heartbroken, i know it can hit them hard, they love company so much, but i'm sure with lots of cuddles and love from mummy she'll be fine, and will have a lovely new friend soon! :):smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
