Hello,
My poor wee soul was rushed to the vet this evening.
I noticed Saturday evening and Sunday he seemed a little sleepier than usual and was in his pigloo a lot. So I weighed him on Sunday and he was down from 950g to 890g in a week. I weighed him yesterday and he was 866g. I watched him for a while gauging how he was and I thought he was holding his left back leg akwardly. I did put him on a flat surface and he walked fine on all four legs so I put it down to my imagination. I decided to start syringing as the weight loss was getting worrying.
This morning I woke up and he had a terrible runny bottom really liquidy and he was covered in watery urine/poo. So I cleaned him up and decided not to syringe feed incase it was a gut issue and I was making it worse. I made an appointment today though and insisted on getting seen. Glen the most wonderful vet he is accomodated and stayed late to see me as he also felt he needed to be seen.
I came home this evening to still a very messy bottom that had not cleared up at all. He came to see me but looked duller. Quickly weighed him:846g8...8...8....
Rushed to vets and he had a thorough examination......ALWAYS trust your instinct. He has a huge lump in a veyr uncommon area between his leg joint and bis tail bone, hence he WAS holding his leg akwardly. Even after I looked at him and checked him over I missed it. I cant stress enough that people seek vets when piggies are ill. I felt awful but Glen said not to worry as he nearly missed it himself and its very very unusual.
The upshot is he's very concerned for him and has kept him in. He says the first stage is getting him stable after this we shall treat the 90% certain absess/lump. He's going to ring at about 11pm to give me an update and start him on metaclopromide, pro biotic and syringe feeding round the clock. When he stabalises going to aspirate lump and confirm its an absess and then go forward with treatment. But says right now the issue is how poorly he is. So Ive left him in Glen and insisted on making sure his little house and tunnel and his own food bowls are with him in hospital.

SO PLEASE wish him all the luck as Glen said he would likely not have been here on Saturday 8...

Aww, at least you had the presence of mind to act quickly!

He's certainly in the best place, where he can get the best care.

Fingers and paws crossed all round here for you guys!

Well done on acting so quickly, hope everything goes well for him. Healing vibes his way x

Thank you. Just hoping his guts stabilise overnight....preying. I know we shouldnt have favourites but he's my baby and Ive had him the longest.
Vet was listening to his heart and said its strong but very fats i held his wee head and stroked him and he said it was slowing as I spoke to him. Him and I have been through some really tough times together and Id reallly like to be able to give him lots of more spoiling.
His cage is cleaned and ready for his return......got to stay positive.

I am sending my vibes that he can make it!

I really really hope so I just cant help worry hes got some sort of secondary gut problem that I gave him from syringing. I never steralised the bowl I used to make up the food and wondering if I have given him something. I'm also panicing that he needs antibiotics or charcoal or sub fluids and electrolytes. I should have syringed some diorlyte this morning when I saw the runny bum. I just never had time by the time i cleared him up I was late for work.
Still waiting on the call.

Heard from vet....." Theo is bright, syringe feeding well and eating parsey" .....THAT A BOY :(|)

Excellent news, stop beating yourself up over 'what if's and maybes' you should only have a positive mental attitude when your piggies are not well.
Have a good nights sleep tonight cause when he comes home I dont think your gonna sleep much. ttfn :(|):(|):(|)

Good old boy, fingers crossed he keeps heading in the right direction. xx

OMG I'm just catching up on this. Hope Theo is going to be okay. Sounds like he has improved a bit so really hope that continues.

Well done for getting him seen quickly. Glenn is one in a million and at least you know Theo is in the very best hands possible.

Get well soon Theo,

xx

Aw thats such great news! I hope he keeps on recovering and demolishing parsely at a rate of knots :)

Not great news. Not loosing weight and gained 1g but guts not stabilising. Lump is not an absess and has lots a fat cells in it but need to go to patholigist to confirm lympoma or cancer :(.
