Some of you will already be aware that my Eliza had some problems a couple of months. Her urine was a horrid dark rusty colour and then she had some blood in her urine a few weeks ago and after 3 weeks of Septrin, her urine colour returned to normal and the blood disappeared. I was so happy. Today however, her urine is a rusty orange. It is coming out of her clear and then turning the orange colour. I am so gutted and feel like crying :(

I'm so sorry. Is Eliza showing any signs of discomfort when she wees? Mimsi has got blood in his urine today and is straining slightly. This happens intermittently with Mimsi (as you know he has an embedded bladder stone). I'm off to the chemist to get baby calpol and some cranberry juice. I have to do this every couple of months with him but it always seems to pass. Can you get some cranberry juice into Eliza to see if that helps her urine! Avoiding green leafy iron rich veg for a few days may help. Sending hugs to you hun....

Are your piggies kept on Shavings?
Only it has been known that the shaving turn a rusty colour when wee'd on, just depends on the batch.
Infact the wee is clear, but the shaving change colour not the wee.

*Big Hug* Tell her Pip wheeeked a get well to her x

I am so sorry that Eliza is having bacteria in her urine again. I hope that you can clear it out soon.

It does seem strange, fingers crossed it clears up again soon. Maybe plenty of water to dilute the urine more will help?

Thank you for your replies. When she did the wee's she was on the kitchen floor so it isn't the shavings :( Fingers crossed it passes other wise it shall be another trip to the vet. She has no symptoms and is eating and drinking normally xx

Give her loads to drink to help her flushing it out - best by syringe (if you can get her to cooperate, that is)!

that's great that she is showing no other symptoms - hope the urine problem clears up fast, sending lots of good vibes

Eliza is still doing the orangey wee's today so I have took a urine sample to the vets. One of them looked more of a red colour :( I was going to leave it for a few days but decided against it.

I have a feeling she will be on antibiotics again so she will love me for that!

Update

The vets have just phone me back. Eliza's urine sample contained protein and a few crystals but know blood. The vet doesn't want to give her antibiotics unless there is blood pesent. She said to just keep an eye on Eliza and take in another sample in a month or so so that we can keep on top of it. She said that she thinks the rusty urine will probably just come and go. My question is could it be the protein causing the urine to be the rusty colour and what can I do to eliminate the protein? I don't understand where it's coming from :(
