Hi All,

My guinea pig is not putting his front paw down as much. It is his front right paw. He is limping slightly, and he will put it down but he favours the left. He is eating fine and does not seem to be in pain. Should I take him the vet? Has anyone else had this?

is it possible he has stumbled/fell and landed awkwardly? Is there an additional level in the cage or ramp? has he been out recently and maybe hurt it that way? If so it's possible he might have pulled a muscle or sprained it slightly. I would give it 24 hours and if it's not easing off take him to the vet for some pain relief and to reduce any swelling. Guinea pigs are quite good at hiding problems so keep an eye on him today and if no better ring the vet to check him over, better safe than sorry :)

This happened with a previous piggie of mine. I took him to the vets but they said they can't do much. Possibly I didn't have a good vet.

Is it swollen?

It is difficult to tell. We tried to trim his nails last night, before we realised anything was wrong and he would not let us touch that paw. Where would it be swollen?

Also he does have a platform where his food is and he is julping on and off that all day.
