Okay, so I'm really concerned now--she's still bloated, every time I touch her tummy gently she complains, she's taking her medication (0.06 mL of meloxicam a day) and I've been hand-feeding her because she's eating slowly and I'm worried she's not getting enough food into her system.

My mom and I called the vet's office this morning, they just said to keep giving her the analgesic. I've been massaging her tummy and letting her rest, but she's super lethargic. She is going to the bathroom, but it seems painful.

Does meloxicam treat the bloating alone? I don't understand why the vet didn't prescribe something to deal with her gas.
 
No - meloxicam doesn;t treat the bloating - it relieves pain.

First - She needs 120ml over 24 hrs hand feeding mushed pelletsb or equivalent (ie 20-30ml per sitting). It's called force feeeding for a reason.

Most importantly - She needs gut stimulants - either cisapride or meto-clopromide together with zan-tac.

At the very least get your vet to authorise you giving human zan-tac fron the chemist and give her 4-6mg/kg.

PM me for dosages. Zan-tac normlly comes in 7.5ng tablets....

She's less bloated now, but I'm worried she's not eating enough. I've been feeding her Critical Care, giving her simethicone (1/2 the infant dose) and the meloxicam, but I feel like there's something missing. So I'm taking her to a different vet practice on Monday morning and we'll see what they do for her.

Just an update, for those of you who want to know: Ponyo wasn't bloated--she's just overweight. mallethead

So she was losing weight because she was probably eating a cheap, high-calorie pellet at the rescue, and now she's eating Oxbow pellets, which are better for her. I went to another vet who said it's like she's on a diet, which explains why she wasn't too keen on eating the new food at first.

She's a lot better now.
