Thanks everyone for your kind messages.

Cuthbert came with him to the vet and was with him at the end. The vet was lovely and he had a peaceful end.

Many thanks GPS for pointing out the obvious. In my state it didn't occur to me that I still could have him PTS because my usual vet is so far away. It was the right thing to say and made me realised that I had to end his suffering.

Rest in peace my lovely Grubb.

You are so brave (in tears again here now) I think when their quality of life has ended, we have to make that heartbreaking decision to let them go :aLJFBQ00151070111C: None of us would do it if we thought there were a chance of recovery, you obviously took great care of him during his illness and he's peaceful now xoxo
Play safe little man with the others at The Bridge, they're waiting for you :)
Hugs and kisses to Cuthbert from us and a big hug for you - wish we could take your heartache away :(

Thank you for doing the right thing, even though it is so very difficult. RIP little piggie...hugs to you and cuddles for his little friend xx

I think its such a great thing that you have done, its so hard to do, but a great mummy knows when to do the right thing...

Well done. I'm so sorry it must have been hard. Thinking of you x

I'm so sorry... it is such a terrible decision to have to make, but having been there with animals who were suffering I knew in my heart that it was the right thing for them, even if it tore my heart out to do it. ((HUGS)) to you, and RIP little Grubb.

I can't possibly imagine having to make that decision. Grubb is resting now, and will have had a wonderful life as you and Cuthbert were a part of it.
Run free on the bridge Grubb, my little sweethearts Fudge, Goggles and Arnold will be watching out for you x

I'm really sorry, it sounds like you made the right decision, I know how hard it is though. Sleep tight little Grub.

RIP Grubb

Thanks everyone - it really helps to get such lovely messages.

I've lost many pigs over the years but losing Grubb has really hit me hard. The kitchen is much quieter now without him rallying the wheeking chorus. However, Cuthbert doesn't seem to be too bad so far and is eating plenty. Grubb used to chatter about everything, and up until a few months ago he always had his head in the food bowl so maybe Cuthbert is enjoying the peace and lack of hassle! Seriously though, I am worried for Cuthbert's happiness and will think about what to do once we have all got used to Grubb's passing.

So sorry for your loss, I know how traumatic this can be (((((hugs))))) Rest in peace Grubb. x

I am so sorry your little one is no longer with you. You have done all you could and must remember that.

I am so sorry for your loss; it is always such a heartbreaking decision. it gets never any easier. It is even harder when it is a special piggy that you have to let go because that is the only thing left you can do for him.

RIP Grubb - you will always live in your mummy's heart!
