There is a new pet shop that has opened up in our town centre. It's right in the middle of a shopping arcade and they sell live animals and I can never resist going in there if I'm passing to check on the guinea pigs. Well, I went in there today and was having a nosy in the cages when I saw what I thought was a small rabbit. When I looked closer I saw it was actually a beautiful chocolate and white guinea pig, and absolutely enormous, surrounded by three smaller pigs who looked about ten weeks old. I was obviously intrigued as to why this adult guinea pig was being sold in a pet shop and pestered my mum to take me back before we went home. When I enquired I was shocked at what I was told!

The shop owner had recieved a delivery of baby guinea pigs from a breeder and found the adult pig in there. The shop owner told the breeder that she didn't take adult animals to sell and the breeder replied that they would just loose the adult over the local fields in that case. Turns out the pig was a twelve month old sow who had arrived with her babies in the shop. The breeders were/are running a large breeding farm and had just got bored and wanted to give up quickly. So the shop owner agreed to take the pig and try and rehome her, and has reported the breeder to the RSPCA. She told me that she was just trying to find a new home for her but it was hard as people wanted baby pigs. Obviously hearing this made me want to cry and when I held her I fell in love straight away.

She is living with my group of 10 girls for now as she's a bit shellshocked and needs to socialise a little, but obviously I got Woody yesterday so I'm thinking of pairing them up tomorrow? She is one of the sweetest, friendliest fat piggies I have met and I am SOO glad I got her. I believe she was being kept with one of her babies in the shop, and it broke my heart to leave her behind, but at least I have helped this piggy!

she is absolutely gorgeous, her face is the same chocolate brown as the foster piggy I have at the mo. I am sooo jealous - trying to persuade OH to let me keep the foster boy to go with my girls.

Good luck with pairing her with Woody tomorrow. xoxo

she is beautiful

sorry i may have missed this but whats her name?
chocolate and white ~ do you have any chocolate bars her colour?

venice

she's so sweet now she'll have a happy life with you being spoiled x>>

She's beautiful and I hope introductions to woody go well.

Just a thought though you mentioned she's fat and given the breeders responsibility or lack there of I'd get her checked by the vet to make sure she's not pregnant.

Good luck hun.

You just said what I was thinking as well!

Have a look at her nipples and compare them with a girl that is guaranteed not pregnant. If chocolate girl's are enlarged and swollen looking, she's certainly pregnant!

PS: Poor girl - she's a real beauty! A chocolate aby; can there be anything more scrumptious?

Glad you were able to take her in, shame on the breeder, I hope the RSPCA follow the complaint up.

I don't think there is anything more scrumptious! She really is gorgeous, and probably pregnant... If only I had the room, I'd say I'd take on some of the babies for you!

Names wise, I like Mary. Because she'd be the Virgin Mary! LOL! Or Lucy, Sadie, Annie... A cute name like that. She has the looks of a beautiful nature. If that makes sense? I don't think she was treated very nicely in the past, but she has a look that says she will love you and be a lovely girl with your piggies, a true sweetheart.

Well done on you for taking her on, I think I would've done the same because she is such a darling. You've got a lovely girl there, but in turn, she has a lovely owner too. xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

love Ridge backs!

Once had a teenage lout in my back garden try to kick my old Guinea pig Patch....had to give the T*** a bit of a slap to show the error of his ways....Second time the Police have been round!

She is a lovely piggy, and deserves a break. Well done. Hope she isn't pregnant, the poor thing has probably already had numerous litters. xx

aww, she's lovely! What a poor girl, hasn't had a very nice life by the sounds of things. I'm glad she is safe with you and your piggies now. xx

just wondered if you had decided on a name yet and how she and Woody got on with the introductions? I kinda like the name Reece - just because her nose colour is the same as a Reece's Piece choccy!

BTW - OH agreed I could keep my chocolate coloured Marty Pig! :)) Choccy pigs rule!
