I just got a new hairless guinea pig (skinny pig). I'm not real familiar with skinny pigs, and if they have any different behaviors from normal guinea pigs. Anyways, she's very small (probably 12 weeks old tops). She has been sneezing a lot but hasn't had any other symptoms of URI, nor has she worsened for 6 days. I also notice that 90% of her sneezing occurs when she's in her aspen litter box, or when I get her our of her cage and put her in a fleece pouch. This being said I have been assuming it was allergies, and was going to try different litter material etc. in the next day or so. This evening, she was sitting in a corner with her eyes shut, and was slow to respond to me. (and this was out of her hidey house...which she usually darts to when i approach her). I got her out to hold, she keeps relaxing and closing her eyes (still a bit slow to respond). So besides the sneezing and sudden sleepiness, she seems perfect...(bright clear eyes, eating and drinking, normal bowel movements, and she's not lethargic when she's awake...she just keeps falling asleep). Is there cause for concern? I'm still optimistic that the sneezing is allergies...and I was thinking that the sleepiness could be a result of the cold weather? Unfortunately... the vet is an hour+ drive, otherwise, I'd just take her in to be on the safe side. However, since the vet is so far a drive, I figured I would ask here to make sure the drive isn't unnecessary.

Whenever you have cause for concern then take the trip to the vet. It would be irresponsible for us to say not to worry about it and to leave it be. A uri can go downhill fast IF she has one. Better to take the trip.

I’ve also learned in my years that if my gut tells me something’s up, something is probably up and I’m not just being paranoid. Worst case scenario is you make the trip and then get given the great news of all clear!

Pictures of your new piggy would be lovely!

This is not normal behaviour for a skinny pig so I would definitely take her to the vet for a check-up. Also, start to weigh her each day to check that she isn't losing weight.
Does she have a companion, if not she will be lonely and this can cause depression.
