Hi all, please can someone advise me further regarding my skinny pigs condition. I have previously taken her to the vets to get lumps on stomach looked at and all i was told was that it looks like skin cancer and whilst she is still eating not to do anything with him ie put to sleep. I obviously DO NOT want to put her to sleep but i am not concerned as they're growing over the months and today they look/feel like they're going to explode! Has anyone ever experienced this? And what did you do? Sorry I am unable to put a picture up but if anyone can advise me further I can send this to you.

I'm sorry to hear this

You will be able to post pictures once your registration completes behind the scenes. The ‘attach files’ button will become available to you.

However, lumps can be a multitude of things from harmless fatty lumps, cysts, abscesses or tumours - they always require a hands on check as things can depend on how the lumps feel (not something we can assess) and any treatment will obviously depend on the findings (whether that is antibiotics, painkillers, surgery to remove lumps etc).

Is there another vet you can get to?

Is your piggy maintaining their weight at each weekly weight check?

I would go back to the vet - a fine needle aspiration or biopsy may be an option to narrow down what the lumps are.
Your pig may also need some pain relief 👍

It is unusual that your bet didn't do any sort of biopsy. One of my piggies was diagnosed with skin cancer and it did not present as lumps it was lesions on his skin. The lumps my skinny pigs have had tend to be fatty lumps. I would ask for a biopsy.

The lumps are very bad at the moment and are continuing to grow. My vet that i have been to see regarding both skinny pigs i have had have only told me they don't know anything about guinea pigs but from their findings of looking and feeling that they believe that they are skin cancer but never offered me any treatment/ investigation just told me as long as she is eating/playing then not to touch her so i have been hesitant to take her back as i don't want to same advice. The first picture i have attached is from May 2025 and the second picture is from today. She is a very cared for piggy and is very happy but obviously for me to see her in this way it makes me sad and don't want her to be in any discomfort.

Thank you all for your kind words and advice! I will contact a different vet and get her there this week! It has been very worrying for me but as i said she is very happy within herself, eating her food and still running around but just wondered if anyone had any advice but the advice you have all given me is great! Thank you all x

Good luck finding an exotics vet who has guinea pig experience. Any rescues near by (decent ones) may be a good place to start, find out which vet practice they use, if you have rescues near you that is.
