Okay so Tuulikki and Tove LOVE to eat. But lately, they love it even more. Like. A lot more. Generally speaking, they get a little bit of veggies in the morning before I go to class, munch on their hay and pellets all day, and then when I come home I give them the rest of their veggies. Not surprisingly, they always always always eat their veggies. However, I'm noticing that now they're eating all of the pellets, when before they usually never finished the bowl. Also, they're hay supply is depleting FAST. Normally, I fill their hay rack before class, and when I get home, there's still a bit left. Now I get home and there's none left, which makes me feel bad because I know piggies have to forage. Now I have to really pack in that hay.

Soooo...

My question is- why? Why are they eating so much more? They don't fight over food... Do piggies eat more in the winter? That's the only reason I could come up with. But how would they know it's getting colder? They're indoor pigs. In good health. They get along very well.

Exesive eating !
Possibiliys, worms, and/or a protaza infectio such as geardea, though geardea is usualy acompaned by sloppy poops

I would colect a poop sample and ask your vet to do a broad spectam poo analasis, (not a float)!
Thogh it is more than lightly that they were just a bit hungary .

Oh no! Well it's about time they're due for a stool check anyways. I got a notice from my vet that I thought think about doing their annuals. If they were to have worms, possibly even tapeworms, is there any way I could have caught those worms?

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions until after your vet check . It could be a simple explanation - like they're more relaxed and happier to be eating - or they may be more active. There are a few forum members who have to keep an eye on the portion sizes of pellets and fresh veggies. The golden rule is to provide hay in unlimited quantities .

Please let us know how you get on with your vet check .

I beleve they are mainly found in garden earth

Everything checks out fine! And they're back to their normal eating habits. It was probably a spike in activity like you said. I've noticed little Tove being more active and happy.

It's good to get them checked out . I'm glad every-thing's OK
