Sam came in to me after a lovely woman rescued him...
He had what appeared to be a URI... and was treated with septrin... after a while the septrin stopped working and he deteriorated... He was then put on Baytril and Metacam... after a few weeks this stopped working aswell... and today i went in to the shed to find him totally drenched in thick green snot...
Took him back to the vets today... and it was decided we would take him off the baytil as it doesnt seem to be working any more... but keep him on the metacam as hes put on some of hos weight back on since being on the metacam... he has small spurs on his teeth and i have a feeling a dental is in the near future... Can i have some get better soon vibes for Sam please...?

He was quite poorly looking today and I had him inside most of the morning tucked in my cardie... and i got some lovely photos of the poor sod...

Here his is looking a bit worse for wear...

Poor boy! have you considered trying Zithromax (azithromycin), as the other antibiotics dont work?
Vet Simon Maddock has researched it; it is the best for really nasty bacterial infections, as long as it is used as a last ditch antibiotic, which is clearly the case here!
Here are his contact details http://www.inorthamptonshire.co.uk/profile/457491/Northampton/Cat-and-Rabbit-Care-Clinic/

Fingers firmly crossed for poorly Sam!

Thanks weibke...!
Olivia the vet has said that its now getting to the point of "do or die" and he might end up on anti-b's all his life... We're syringing him full of food at the moment to try and bump his weight up just incase he needs a dental next week...
will definatly contact him after sams next vet check next week... :)

hes lasted a good few months like this now so I'm sure he'll pull through...

He was the most (and only) vicious guinea pig ive ever met...
if you put your hand near him he lunged at you... got bitten more times then i care to remember that first month...
but hes so friendly now... comes bombing up to the front of the hutch when he hears me come in... litterally launches himself at you if you open the hutch door and will happily fall asleep on you now... hes an absolute stunner... :)

That goes to show what amazing work you have done with him and that people should not give up on guinea pigs if they are aggressive.

Wow - good going. What type of things did you do to bring him round and teach him to stop biting?

Hope this little guy recovers and gets to enjoy the good life!

Well... Food is the way to a piggies heart... :))
Very tedious work really... I put my hand in his cage with a piece of pepper on my palm and left it there... Pop the telly on because it can take ages to get them to come to your hand... He would quite frequently bite me on a couple of occasions quite badly... Which then evolved in to putting a gloved (thick leather) hand in to the cage with some pepper on... :))
I just kept at that for a few weeks and then eventually got to the point where I could stroke him when he snatched the food... And just lodes of small steps it took about 6 weeks to get to that point... If I remember right...

He eventually just stopped biting when he realised I wasn't going to hurt him... Hed been quite badly abused in his last home... :(

Very tedious work... But it pays off eventually... :)

My Snowball went through a very poorly state due to URI. He was on Baytril which didnt seem to be working. But we then went to the vet after some very useful information and it was fluid on his lungs, after the injection he was better again. I can find the thread for you if you want with the information?

Although this may not be the case for your piggy. So sorry to here that your piggys so ill:(
Get well soon<3

I think I remember that...
Glad snowball is all better now...

The thing is with sam he doesn't have a stereo typical URI...
he will have a slight rattle on his chest... Water eyes and a small amount of snot on his nose... Then all of a sudden he will have a snot explosion and be really poorly for s couple of days then he's alright for a bit... Then he gets the symptoms back and then it goes round and round... But he will always have a very slight rattle and watery eyes...
It's very hard to explain in writing... Lol...
I know what I'm trying to say but it's not coming out... Lol
He's just a bit out of the ordinary... I've treated URI's and I've had pigs that have needed the diuretic jab... And he doesn't appear the same... rolleyes

^) Awwwww Sam what a handsome piggle, I'm sorry he's feeling poorly.

Artie, now one and a half, had a awful URI and eye infection when he was only eight weeks old, we used to syringe feed him CC as seemed to help keep him going. I dont know if it'll help but i found lots of soft clean bedding helped with his illness too.

Hope he feels better soon lots of healing vibes x
