Mr Audrey & Mr Marilyn
Junior Guinea Pig
Hi everyone,
I've had my boys about two and half months now. I love them to bits and wanted to share some pictures with you! I think this forum is great, I've learnt so much from it and I check back every day, it's so great knowing there are so many piggie experts close at hand!
So I was worried about my two boys at first, it took a while for me to get used to what I now know is normal boar behaviour! A couple of weeks ago things started to be getting a bit heated (no fighting, just seemed to be irritating each other), so we built an extension to their cage, fitting two commercial cages together so they could have some alone time if they needed it, and it seems to have helped.
Although the bickering has calmed down a lot for the moment, the rumblestrutting has continued, is there not a point where this stops, or does it generally keep going for as long as you keep them together? I'm just hoping that they can make it through their teenage years and stay together although I know it's a possibility things might turn at any time. We give them as much run time as possible, which obviously they love!
We try to put them in the kitchen as much as we can so they've got lots of room to run around, and we can set up tubes and boxes and hide food and all sorts for them. For some reason they enjoy exploring through to the hall where there is nothing at all to do. The video below shows them being very brave running out to the hall and then thinking better of it and running back. Marilyn (the blondie) is the dominant piggy, but Audrey adores him and follows him round everywhere, it's so cute!

Now we've got the boys I try and spoil them as much as possible, and whenever I'm out shopping, I'm always looking for things they will like to eat, and play in and on. My recent purchase the house (below) went down very well, although I'm not sure they are going to be able to squeeze through the door after very long! I've been looking at the 'pimpmypiggy' crash pads, will definately be getting one as soon as I can actually decide which ones to get :-)
£10 on the house, just as happy in a cereal box!
My OH loves the boys too, he feeds them when he gets up in the morning, makes me send pigtures when I come home to see them in my lunch break (I'm fortunate enough to be in walking distance from home to work), and he's building them a run soon, but he does tease me about now being a 'guinea widow'! I do talk about them and worry about them a lot! We are going away this weekend, and I'll see the boys on Friday evening, we'll be back on Sunday afternoon and have a friend coming round on Saturday to feed them and check on them, but I'm already so anxious about leaving them and know I'll just be feeling guilty all weekend :-(
Marilyn has always been the dominant, braver one, and more recently he's become less tolerant of laptime, having his veggies and then trying to get away straight away (although I suspect it may be because he knows floor time is coming up soon after), whereas Audrey has always been slightly on the anxious side, he's getting much better and more confident (although it's always a bit tense when it comes to actually getting him out of the cage). My OH calls him a 'delicate flower'!
I've just planted some carrots, and going to start growing some more veg and herbs for the first time ever. My boyfriend thinks it's for us, but between you and me it's mainly for the boys :-)
My OH had a good few days worth of teasing when I told him I had ordered 'guinea pig magazine', but he's got his obsessive interests and my guinea pigs are mine. After all, what's not to love about them?
