Mycozole for Ringworm

Anyone have experience of using Mycozole please?

My vet prescribed this for my two baby pigs. It comes in spray form and I have to give each pig no more than 2 sprays...my problem is one of the girls has 4 patches on different parts of her body...one on her face including nose and lips and one on each hip plus one large one on her bottom.
I have tried spraying onto a small saucer but the liquid isn't sufficient to cover all the patches.
I've carried out extensive research on the net but can't get any information on application.

Anyone who noticed my original post on this will understand why I'm reluctant to consult my vet again :(
 
I have used mycozole spray on little ones - it worked to a degree. Spray from a distance to cover the affected areas, wear plastic gloves so you can rub it into the skin as it is not just the scabby area that will be infected, you have to get it all over the pig to treat effectively. My vet advised using it twice a day for 7 days.

This is why I now use Imaverol (with vet approval) to treat ringworm as it is more effective and gets down to the affected skin far better.

I ended up painting it on with a cotton bud because the nozel blocked up really easily. Like Suzy says you need to cover the whole pig to treat effectively which is hard with the spray.

I also find it made my little Arran's skin irritated so I changed and used something else but he has particularly sensitive skin so I guess normally it would be ok.

Thanks so much for your reply...I'm getting desperate now. According to their weight I can use only two sprays...even now I've cut off all their fur it just isn't enough to cover the patches never mind the whole pig.
No wonder it seems to be spreading... I have been using it for three days so only another 4 to go. I have used a contact form on the makers website but I don't suppose I shall get a reply in time for it to do any good.
I'm tempted to bathe the scabs in order to get them off.....any opinions on this please?
My vet told me to treat for mites again but is it advisable while I'm using the Mycozole?

I really wish he'd let me keep the Imaverol he originally prescribed......I'm sure it would be easier to use.
 
It takes a good while for it to clear up and often it looks like it's getting worse before it gets better...

I also used Malaseb shampoo wich you can get from the vet to bath them in. I know The Potteries use it to good effect and it worked well for me too.

Thanks :) I just paid £9 for a bottle of Nizoral:{ I think it does the same thing?

I'm just wondering if I should wait until the 7 days are up before shampooing?

I've just treated them for the second time today and for their weight I can only use 0.4 mls...there is no way I can make that cover their entire body however I apply it. It has definitely spread since I started using the Mycozole.
 
Urgent advice about ringworm needed please

As my baby pigs ringworm seems to be spreading I now have a choice and I don't know what to do :(

I have bought Imaverol so that is one option

My vet has offered to supply Itrafungol so that is another.
Is there less chance of it coming back with the Itrafungol and if it will get rid of it more quickly.

I've heard that you need to use Malaseb in conjunction with Itrafungol should I get some of that too?

I just want them to get better...I've already spent just short of £100 so I may as well get the best treatment I can.

I don't mind what I have to do for them..ie bathing etc as long as I can get rid of it. I greatly appreciate all the advice given so far.

I have pictures if it will help?
 
I only use itrafungol in extreme cases where Imaverol fails (twice in 10 yrs). It has side effects on the liver so I would not recommend it at this stage for such young pigs.

I cannot add to the advice I have already given - I have treated approx 200-300 pigs with ringworm over the years and tried just about every combination of treatments and shampoos. I have come to the conclusion that I'll stick with Imaverol as it works.

Would you finish the treatment with Mycozole? It appears to have worked on the patches that I've been able to treat....shall I now concentrate on the new patches? Or would you bin it and get straight on with Imaverol?
 
You must be getting to the end of the 7 days of mycozole anyway by now. I would wash the pigs in gentle shampoo to get rid of any residue treatments. Towel dry and apply the Imaverol, I have given dosage and instructions on one of your previous threads.

Thanks Suzy.....I now know the rules and have gone back to my original thread...so sorry for any confusion.
