Mysterious Weight Loss Seems To Be Getting Worse

Bit stuck, he won't take it unless I give it like a waterbottle and instead stops like I've insulted him, then leaps for the syringe when it's in front of him

Aa vet is out of lunch hours now but isn't replying :(

Edit - wondering if I'm syringe feeding wrong? I watched the video on the syringe feed thread and it seems like the syringe goes far in past the teeth whereas I put it behind the teeth but don't go any further with it?

Another edit - can I just use a spoon? He seems to be taking it from it better himself

Managed to get into vet at 5:15pm, mum should be home soon but as she's taken the bus hopefully there's been no delays/interruptions. Weighed Ginny a few minutes ago, at 717g :) he's eating his hay and seems quite bright

Edit - back to frustration. Have been told to either go here today or Taverham in a few days. My mum just got on the bus due to funeral papers running late and I've no idea if she'll make it in time to drive to the appt. As he's gaining weight should cancel the appt that may not be made in time and wait?

She just came home but due to the time limit I won't make it at all, in in absolute tears I'm so unsure what to do

Thank you xx he's at a steady 700-10 g right now and still eating on his own, making the syringe feed now. I feel like it could be arthritis but as he seems to be eating fine when I see him can it make that much of a big difference?

Can't get to Taverham until Thursday-Friday as nan's funeral is Wednesday. Vet at my local gpig vet has an appt booked again tomorrow for afternoon, they said if he's worse by morning I can go in then though without one.

730g :) He's got such an appetite right now. I put him down during syringe feeding as I thought he needed a wee but instead went straight to the pellet mix ! He's got a wet chin (is it ok for him to eat mix straight from the bowl?) which he gracefully wiped on my shirt lol. When I put him back in the cage Peppa went to him and tried to lick or nibble at his chin

770g ! :D feeling incredibly grateful. Just wondering however, is such a big weight gain ok in such a short time? I keep thinking the gained fat is the gas he's prone to

Also second time he's peed on the scales today lol. I'm sure he has something against them

Back to 730g. I'm not sure whether to feed anymore as I think the pellets are messing with his gas, had to switch to Grainless for that reason

Try to step away from the scales and get a good sleep! Keep hand feeding and separate him from girls for some quiet feeds tomorrow (I mean separate just for feeding time) .

Thank you. I don't have to be up very early so that will help xx I haven't got this handy with the scales since Minja first became ill. Wil do :) swear I'd go mad if not for this forum

Thanks and lol :))

Weighed Ginny, 683/680-90g. About 20g lower than yesterday but honestly not sure if it's hunger. My appointment with my local gpig vet (not Taverham) is at 5pm. I'm going to see how he is until then, but I'm not sure if I should take him or not or wait until Taverham; my nan's funeral is tomorrow so I'll be out just about all day, giving me no time at all to syringe feed etc.

Can you keep both appointments? would you local vet keep him for the day so that they can syringe feed?

I'll keep both and see what happens x I'm not sure if they do that, I'll give them a ring and ask in a bit. On Wednesday you mean?

He's currently having some syringe feed, moved from the syringe and went to the bowl lol.

Also @Elisabeth Peppa n Porridge have been doing laps around the cage today, I didn't manage to catch a video but they seem to have some fun doing that ahah

Thank you xx he's had about 1.5 to 2 mls of syringe feed or so, not counting what he's been eating from the bowl. I don't want to overfeed and encourage his gas, how much is advised to feed in one hour? I want him to put on weight but don't want to make any troubles

Thanks :) while I'm going to have to change my top (as he's peed on it) he's munching quite happily on the mix and shaking his fur and getting mix on me lol

Try and get more syringe food into him at one sitting as Helen says eg at least 5ml. Good that he is eating himself too. Is he having veg too?
Do you think you could fish through the many weight measurements you have taken and simplify it to one measurement per day say over the last 3 weeks? If you have excel you could pull together a simple chart. The reason I suggest this is that your vet thinks you are a panic bag so you need to get them to focus on what is going on - if they can see a clear downward trend on a weight chart if may help the appointment get to the point.

He's slowly being introduced back to veg (after it turns out spring greens do not help) as since his severe gas, about a month or so ago, he's been prone to blowing up. Last night he had about two or so pieces of coriander, one or three dices of carrot and a piece of bell pepper.

Thank you, that's a really good suggestion. I don't have Excel right now, I'll write it down

Looking at the weights

On the 2nd May Tuesday, he was 860g
On the 9th of May Tuesday, he was 790g
On the 16th of May Tuesday, he was 769

Last night he was 732g at 9pm, in the morning he was roughly 640g and then went up to 770g after a while of syringe feeding before mellowing down to the 730g area. He's been wobbling about the 700-720g area.

Poos are looking fine

Ok - good that is clearer - just say that 23rd May is 730g and that gives the vet 4 readings to see a weekly pattern. The 640g reading must have been a duff reading I think looking at the others. Can you write down the four readings for the vet?
So the key message for vet is that there is a downward trend over the last 4 weeks - back that with your 4 clear measurements - don't confuse it with more readings/ daily variation. And have in your mind that overall 730g is low for a boar - none of mine are that small, even the one on palliative care. You do need to explore what is wrong.
You have been messing about with his diet / pellets over that time which does complicate the picture but for this appointment I would focus on that downward trend you have spotted. You need the vet to give a really thorough exam - weight, listen to heart, lungs, look in mouth, feel of kidneys and bladder etc - they should test wee and they may want to do a blood test.
Sorry if I sound a bit teacher-ish - I just want you to get the best out of your appointment for Ginny. All the best

Thank you :) it's fine, I really do appreciate the advice. I'll write down the four readings to present to the vet and describe his recent variety in diet. I will likely have to repeat this with the Taverham vet if my local doesn't. Ginny was 766 last time my vet saw him, he said to come back if he gets any lower which I am at five pm. Poor boy used to be a steady 900g

I'm going to ask about the overstay while I'm at the funeral, but I'm a bit worried he'll deplete outside of his comfort zone

Back into tears. The bridge has either closed as the whole route is full of traffic, I'll be at least a hour late and they'll be closed by the time I get there. I'm so unsure about what to do for the funeral tomorrow

Could you drop your pig off with them first thing? If not, give him as much food as you can before you leave and when you get home. That's all you can do.
