Mystery Illness Affecting My Piggies

I think her teeth will be ok as long as she's eating hay mainly, the veg doesn't grind their teeth down as much as hay anyway :) Might be worth getting some Oxbow Orchard hay, or Timothy hay or even Chamomile & Dandelion hay as they often like a different hay when feeling a bit poorly :)

Sadly, this isn't the news I had hoped to share - Ace has lymphoma :( A diagnosis that I'm sure will be as much a shock to you guys as it was to me.

She has been a bit brighter the past day or two, but she's a little miserable today and isn't taking her feeds so well. All we can do for her now is make sure she is comfortable and well loved.

Thank you for all your help, and sharing your knowledge with me. I just wish it had been a positive outcome.

:( I'm so so sorry you've had bad news. I hope you have a lot more days with her and that you can keep her as happy and comfortable as possible x

Aww I am so sorry :( Thank you for telling us. I hope she is pain free & that you can treasure your time with her <3

I'm really sorry too. Make sure she is kept topped up with pain relief and remember the vet can prescribe stronger than Metacam if needed. Let her be your guide and take each day as it comes, she will let you know when the time is right to make the decision.

I am so sorry to hear such sad news. I hope you have good quality time left together.

I was thinking of faecal samples too, maybe that should be your first step. I think it is difficult to get blood from a pig but more experienced vets will be used to doing it, I may be wrong but think it would involve an anaesthetic.

I am going to throw an idea out here that not everyone will agree with but have your pigs ever had any type of fungal? Candidiasis (an overload of Candida in the gut) can cause both weight loss and lots of other symptoms. It can be treated with Itrafungol or Nystatin. Humans can get it too.
My son had this, until he was 5. Antibodies can cause it in humans, might be the same in guinea pigs.

just read the thread, I am so sorry to hear about ace, Just love and cuddle her and be there till the end. My thoughts are with you, my piggies are sad about the news as well, kisses and hugs to you and ace and the family. x

I'm so so very sorry to hear this Liane - I've had lymphoma in my own piggie herd.

However does this recently diagnosed condition also relate back to your two boars?

Perhaps it would be better to take this discussion offline - I will PM you.

Sending you and Ace big hugs
x

Sadly, Ace passed away this morning. She had been very happy and lively the past few days, and had been eating well, so it gives me some comfort that she went when she did.
