Woke up at about 5am as there was an odd noise, checked on piggies and Thrace is soaked in urine, smelly and lethargic.

Took her straight to the vet who found nothing wrong. Teeth, heart, bladder ect were all thouraly checked.
Vet gave a painkiller/anti-inflamatory (carprofen), which I have to give for a week, and if she doesnt improve then its either an ultrasound or x-ray.

Nothing at all has changed, no different food, no falls, or fights. She's just suddenly super ill. Literally went from being super happy about carrots for dinner, to looking like shes giving up.

Anyone have any ideas as to what this could be?

Also just noticed Boomers making a pain sound, and has soft poo. So now I think I have to go back to the vets, :... so worried about them and now I have to worry about money too. €35 just for a consult grrrr

Thanks for the links Wiebke, they will come in very handy I should think.
I'm letting Thrace have a rest and recover from this mornings trip. The nearest vet is about an hour walk.

Boomers on pee watch, but nothing so far apart from trying to eat the chair inbreeding
The sound shes making is the same as when she was in labour and having a contraction, so shes oviously in pain. Will try and get another vet apointment asap. Hope they can do a payment plan as what with having an actue ear infection and then Thrace's treatment I'm out €200 and its the end of the month :{

This happened to one of my piggies....still have no idea what caused it.

He was kept in at the vets given subqutaneous fluids and pain relief and after a day at the vet he was back to himself.

I hope your pair get better. x

I cant get anything into Thrace. She's had her painkiller, but anything more and she gets too distressed.

Her right eye looks sunken and I know that can meen dehydration but surly that would happen to both?

At the moment she looks like she's given up and is just sitting and all her energy is going into breathing. 8...

I am so sorry.. I don't know anything about this but I think the links Wiebke gave were pretty good. I hope little Thrace gets better soon.

its horrible when they wont eat or drink anything.. ive recently had the same problem with having to syringe feed and give meds with the guinea pig getting distressed by the whole process....it takes some patience and practice to get it right and they eventually become more relaxed about the whole thing.

I was trying all sorts putting a drop of ribena into water to make it taste more interesting, warming up very mashed up watery pellets, recovery food, veg mushed through a food processor with water added...if you keep at it it gets easier and i found he took food better if the syringe was just placed at the side of his mouth for a while before trying to dispense anything into his mouth with it. i hope they recover ok! :)

She's just eaten a little bit of cucumber and a tiny broccali leaf, which I'm taking as a posoative sign xx>>>. Nowhere near safe yet, shes lost alot of weight, but she's seems like shes got a bit more fight in her now.

Shes had the meds and syringed feeding which I will carry on to help boost, but I'm relived shes started eating.

Thank you all for your well wishes, will keep you informed :)

She wasn't at all interested in soilid food this morning :(
So while dealing with my little bubba at the vet I got her some critical care, which I hope will get a boost into her.
Poor little thing kept nudging my hand away everytime I tried bringing food near.

Fingers firmly crossed for your poorly girl! Can you add a pinch of probiotics to the Critical care?

The only type I can find near here would be the human yoghurt types, would that be alright?

Thrace is looking alot better, she's eating hay and small amounts of veggies. She's also using the water bottle, and looking more lively.
She's extremely under weight though so it will take awhile before I'm happy leaving her to eat on her own.
Were getting better with the critical care, takes about 45mins now as apossed to an hour and a half. Just wish she liked it like he daughter does :))

in reply to your yoghurt question, I'm pretty sure they can not have anything dairy.

glad bean is a wee bit better x
