Last week I lost one of my guinea pigs. He started squeaking when pooping and peeing so he was rushed to the vet. After x-rays we found a mass near his pelvis that we thought was a bladder stones. We when in to surgery and it turned out to be a bonny tumor growing out of his pelvis (something that was not operable) and making urinating and pooping painful. His last x-ray 2 months prior showed no signs of the mass so it was very slow going. He had also contracted a uti and had recently undergone a teeth float. With the option to let him suffer from all that and recovering from surgery or let him go I chose the latter.

I work at the vets office so I was able see x rays and test results for him. His mass was over his pelvis and about the size of his entire pelvis. We did not expect this at all the day before he was euthanized he had a teeth float because some of his back teeth were starting to grow in to the sides of his mouth. He was lossing some weight so for the week leading up to his surgery he got critical care and mashed up pellets we got some weight back on him but after thr float he was eating fine that night so I let him be I found out the next day he had gone from around 1000g to 940g.

I do not regret my decision to euthanize him but I wish I knew what the mass was. I have a guinea pig now that is his brother so I am trying to figure out if its genetic. It grew in less that 2 months but probably even less time than that because we had only noticed his weight loss a week before he was euthanized. The mass was round and boney and covered most of the pelvis. Other medical info on him was he had osteoporosis and was on 0.15ml of meloxicam every 12 and had been for around 6 months. Any incite is greatly appreciated.

Thank you. My Dr have told me it was very likely cancer. I know this was a long shot but his case was so bizarre I wondered if someone had heard of a similar case
