A small village near Glasgow, in rainy Scotland!
Don't worry! I don't have a rabbit that is infected with it, or showing symptoms!

Now that's cleared up, I was wondering - there is a nice old lady with a big ol' lovely hutch at the side of the road for clearing away, but unfortunatly her pet rabbits had suffered from myxomatosis, and passed away. Now she doesn't want to put any animals in it.

Being an oppertunist, I knocked on her door and asked her if she would let me have the cage, but obviously now I am a little worried about any prosepective piggies I pop in there. Would they be ok? Obv. the cage would be cleaned and throughly disinfected before use, but would they be ok to go inside it?

Thanks to any who answer!

if its a wooden shed i would tread carefully some say using a blow torch to singe the insdes kills off nasties but i'm not sure about the bugs thing maybe i'm over cautious?

Well, I did read up on myxomatosis, and apparently it is spread via fleas and flies. I have an insecticide that I would use on the hutch before anyone went in it, and that has taken care of infestations of beasties I've had before. :S

Can Guinea's catch Myxomatosis?

Well both my bunnies died of mxy 2 weeks ago.The hutch was disinfected after they died and the vet said that would be enough!
As you are putting guinea pigs in you have no worries!rolleyes

Mxyomatosis is a rabbit only disease!

Yay! That is good news, it can be put to some use then, it is a giant hutch! Only problem is, it might be going to Hels, and she has a wee bunny in her piggy room.

So, I've sprayed it with insectcide, but didn't get as good a covering as I would've liked, but I disinfected it throughly, but am planning on getting more insecticide and respraying it then too. Will it be ok to go in a room with a rabbit, do you think?

And so sorry to hear about your wee bunnies. I've been doing a bit of reading and mxymomatosis sounds horrible. :(
